And indeed are also acronyms. Initialisms tend to be pronounced as individual letters more often but you're right it wasn't the best of examples to choose to illustrate that point. However the idea was to pick a couple of examples where there was no question regarding them being accepted as words to point out that it was perfectly possible for EADS to be either an initialism or an acronym since you can pronounce EADS as a word (c.f. also George Eads from CSI).
