Earning extra money

Sell non existent crap on eBay, can make plenty out of stuff like 'name a star' gifts, materials cost a quid at most, sell them for a tenner, you can soon be knocking out 10 or 20 a week using virtually no time at all, hardly mountains of cash but not to be sniffed at

Ohai :)

Just a wee bit of an update, I'm still doing this but incredibly slowly as I only do it when I've literally got nothing else to do, and some of the games I bet on are only in a few days time so it takes a bit of time to get get it sorted.

At this point in time I'm £18 up, that's including the £25 I lost due to my own silliness, so in total £43 up. At this point I just want it separated from all my other finances so until I've built up enough of a pot to do multiple bets at a time, it's slow going but the profit is solid. This isn't a get-rich-quick game, more of a keep yourself busy and earn a wee bit on the side when you're bored at work kind of thing.

A few interesting links:

www.fixtheodds.com - This site scans various bookies and retrieves offers. It then matches them with a lay bet at Betfair so I can cancel the bets out and claim the free bet, which is where the money is made.

http://www.matchedbetting.co.uk/downloads.html - This is where I got my spreadsheet from. It's slightly confusing at first, but after half an hour or so of fiddling, I managed to suss it out and it's a great little sheet for keeping track.

http://www.freebets.info/matched-betting-spreadsheet - I stole a page from this spreadsheet and copied it into the spreadsheet I'm using. This just adds another tab where I can store all my login details and free bet records as it will start to get a bit hectic with accounts at so many bookies. If you don't know Excel, this is the guide I used for copying the sheet over.

I made a separate gmail account for this, I recommend you do the same if you want to try matched betting.

In total I put £155 in and so far I'm technically £43 up, so not bad for a few minutes work.

I must admit it is confusing at first but I'm starting to get the dance down. Note that caution is the name of the game here, don't make the same mistake I did and lose a bet. Make sure you read the terms and conditions as some bookies will require you to bet x amount of times before releasing any free bets. If you think you've had a free bet with a bookie before, then check to make sure as you will only receive the promotional bet once. I made a new account on William Hill and it linked my details to an account from 2010 which I had completely forgotten about, hence my loss of a free bet and £25.

Any questions, feel free to ask.

How much? On a pet? I understand how important pets are to their respective owners - I spent £450 saving my cats' leg from being removed when a little brat of a kid kicked him on mischeivous night. We had to have the discussion of whether we could afford it because it wasn't a guaranteed successful operation and there are still issues that can arise later, even now, because the pins cannot be removed.
We decided to go ahead because they let us pay monthly but the kind of money you are spending is a significant one and I'm guessing it's beyond you means because of this thread.
Personally, I would not have spent that amount of money on a pet no matter how loved - it sounds cruel but it's an honest statement and life goes on, I would do everything I could solong as it was within my means and if taking an extra job on was needed then I would deem that as being one step too far, a bit of overtime I could live with.
It's a tricky one to make a call on this sort of thing, I don't envy anyone in these situations.

A mate of mine has done match betting and has made around £1000 in a few month.

Ignore the people telling you to put the dog down. I cried like a girl when my last dog got put down (he was close to 16 years old) and couldnt think of getting another for a while. Ive got another dog now after about 5 years of not having one and would spend that money on keeping him healthy.

Hope it works out for you!

I sometimes do stuff on the weekends that does not actually make me money, but cuts my outgoings.

I mystery shop pubs and restaurants. Basically go in, have a meal and then report back on the decor and service. It is a free meal as they pay a contribution for the meal and reimburse you up to a certain amount.

These are a good company to try - http://uk.marketforce.com/

Once you do a certain amount and you report back well, you get hotel visits as well which is an overnight stay with dinner all paid for.

A while back I went to five different pubs to have a pint of Stella in each, all free. :D
