1443: Back to Japan now: The official Kyodo news agency is reporting that about 88,000 people are missing.
Lucky I left Tokyo yesterday morning, good timing ! Need to go back on Tuesday though, hope flight isn't delayed.
japan has a massive drainage system called G-Cans. that will probably help with clearing the water but as for the rest of it, wow
Christchurch was 7.1 which is 670 kilotons, this one was a 8.9 which is 336 megatons so it's 501 times more energy than the Christchurch quake.
But energy alone doesn't determine damage, location and depth are also factors I think.
Info taken from Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale
check bbc now and see the fires
from the wiki link postedAre you sure that's correct ???
BBC still stating that it's 8000 times more powerful !!!!
seeing as it's 1.8 I imagine the BBC are just rounding it.a difference in magnitude of 2.0 is equivalent to a factor of 1000 ( = (102.0)(3 / 2) ) in the energy released
Elaborate please.
With evidence. Not quotes from storybooks.
There have been two Christchruch earthquakes, one in 2010 and one in 2011Are you sure that's correct ???
BBC still stating that it's 8000 times more powerful !!!!
Video from ~15 minutes ago show entire residential areas on fire
Hahaha, is that a boss telling someone to get back to work in the middle of the earthquake?!?
