Easy fix waterblock?

Can you get waterblocks for the LGA775 that don't require you to get to the back of your motherboard? You know, like the push-clip fixings on HSFs ?

The alphacool range use a standard 775 mounting system (push pins) and they are not bad for C2D's.

something like the nexxxos XP would be fine

At the risk of being branded a snob - the CPU block is the most critical part of the watercooling system as if you don't extract the heat from the CPU, then the rest of the system is practically useless.

Part of the water-block efficiency comes from it being bolted down tight on the CPU and you cannot do that with the Socket T push-pin system.

Buy a good waterblock (Swiftech Apogee/D-Tek FuZion) and a backing plate and do the job right, before you become another disappointed water-cooler.

If you are that lazy, dont bother w/cing.

No matter what anyone says, it does become a chore, and if you already can't be bothered, I cant see you being a happy chappy in 12 months time. I got to the point of being sickened off with having to remove a loop to do simple tasks, so went back to a basicish MATX, silent system, and its all gravy, it also stopped me fiddling too much, and now I actually use the computer, dont spend all the time altering the internals and installing windows

you can perfectly well get by with watercooling long term.

I've had my loops in (2 in a pc7 so not exactly easy to get around) since december, I drained the gpu loop to get my 7950gx2 out and an 8800gtx in, the only reason it had to be drained is the GX2 block won't come off without breaking the seals.

If I went now from an 8800gtx to for example a 2900xt, aside from being slightly mental I could do it without draining (quick fingers and towels). But even if you had to drain its hardly what I'd call a chore.

If you're constantly swapping gfx cards and cpu fixings (who's done anything other than 939 to 775 recently? maybe the odd 478 to 775?) then its no chore.

I also don't have loops consisting of bleach. I have deionised water and thats it. No animal or plant life to be seen.

That said, the the OP.. come on.. just take your motherboard out once you slacker!

True, the Apogee/FuZion are the best blocks but the NexXxos is not a bad one by any stretch of the imagination. Last I checked, it was on par with the LittleRiver G4 (testing was conducted on an Athlon XP Tbred 1700, mind). and yes - one of the criticisms levelled at it is the mounting system (purely because it doesn't screw through the motherboard).

But it is a very effective waterblock, even if it does rip off all of Cathar's hard work. But then, which good block after the LR Cascade didn't/does not?

Another thing to remember is that watercooling is actually fun, if a reasonable approach is taken. Yes, it can be a PITA, but so can pretty much ever aspect of computers. I stopped tinkering with mine (when I didn't have time) and it ran fine for three months without taking the side of the case off.

Don't be dissuaded from watercooling because you aren't doing it properly and not spending £££s on it. Not spending loads and getting good performance is the clever way of doing things.

The only reason I've gone wet is for quiet. Having just bought a 2900XT the fan is fairly loud, so Ive bought bits to cool it. I just thought suddenly that if you could get an easy fit WB for the CPU I might just add that to the loop. I'm not pushing the clock any further, just making it quiet.

But I think I'll just stick to the gfx card for now, I -really- cant be bothered removing the mobo again, I've replaced it three times in the last 2 months and the thought of doing it all again makes me want to kill a cute bunny.
