Hi guys i was just wandering if there is a little proggy out there that will help me overclock a bit easier? I know theres ABIT UGURU but i just tried installing the version off my cd but it says it's only for Windows 2000/XP so it doesn't install :(

Thanks!

I'd always recommend you overclock "properly" with the BIOS. It's really not that hard, and is much more reliable. :)

Clockgen is one of the most popular Windows overclocking utilities.

Ok thanks guys :)
Also one more quick question! All i want is to bump up the cpu from 2.4 to 2.7 atm but will i need to change the voltage etc? I think my stock cooler is big enough aswell!

With an E6600 stock voltage should be fine. and the stock cooler should still be adequate.

Make sure you run Orthos for 8 hours to confirm stability. :)

I just downloaded Orthos and quickly tried it and i was getting...

CPU Speed - 3006MHz

Is this normal or is my cpu actually overclocked like it should be anyway

It looks like you've made the comfy overclock of 3ghz. Well done. Still, do a stability check for 8 hours and make sure that your temps aren't too high. Either Orthos or dual prime95 are the programmes to run. If you go much above 65 degrees you might want to think about a bit of extra cooling.

Thats the thing though, i brought my system from here (OcUK) and it was supposed to be overclocked but every proggy i have used to look at the cpu speed it has always been at 2.4?! Maybe because the cpu is being stressed the overclock kicks in? I haven't tryed to overclock it myself yet but is there any point now?

Thanks :)

sounds like speedstep might be enabled; this throttles back the CPU unless your actually using it. Have a poke around in your bios and see if you can see such a setting :)

Right i have just had a poke around in the BIOS and just thought i would note these few things down!

Frequency: 3006MHZ
External Clock: 334MHZ
CPU Operating Speed: User Define
Multiplier Factor: X9
Estimated New CPU Clock: 3006MHZ

So my CPU is overclocked right?

However i couldnt find any kind of speedstep options of the like?!

Thanks :)

Reccomended to take it off or leave it on?

If you take it off, the mobo won't drop the multiplier when the CPU is out of use. This is handy when OC'ing because the clockspeed of your CPU is constant.

If you leave it on, it will drop the multiplier.

I have mine off. :)

What are you using to measure the speed? Some points of the system don't read the actual speed, just what the chip is at default (for example System in control panel).

Dohh >.<

Do you know any that would show me the actual spped as i tried CPUZ as well and that also showed stock speed?

Thanks :)
