Hi I am looking to upgrade and plan to overclock my next build (i5 or i7 chip and board to be decided).

My question: when it comes to overclocking these chips will I get a better clock with 2 x 8gb ram or 4 x 4gb ram?

OCUK with their overclocked bundles states that with 4 sticks of ram the clock is reduced. If this is true, please tell me why.

Thanks in advance and a merry christmas to all

I would imagine with the 2 sticks of 8gb. I think its down to the memory controller. Its less stressful to it having 2 slots full at high capacity than having 4 slots utilised

I was running with 8gb in a 2x4 configuration. Cpu at 4.2ghz, i stuck another 8gb in last week. No problems so far with stability on the oc.

Thankyou all for your replies.

I guess it depends on the ram and mobo and luck. Unless anyone has any definate answers I guess I will just see what the prices are when I bite the bullet and upgrade.
