I have never been on a contract before. I have had the same phone for 4 years (Siemens M50) and i have decided i actually need an upgrade now.

So, the question, what do i need to take with me? I know i need my bank details as obviously its a contract which means the money is deducted from my account at the end of the month? A passport maybe?

Also, i have always been with O2. It must be possible to keep the same number when i move to T-Mobile? Does it take a long time to actually get it all set up?

:o

You may need a passport, driving license, birth certificate or something aswell.

When i went with o2 they just needed my bank details and they credit checked me first. When i look around other stores and they offered to credit check me, t-mobile/orange/3/vodafone etc all needed proper i.d.

What you basically do is ring o2 up and ask for your PAC code, you then get this sent in the post to which when recieved you ring up t-mobile and give it to them and they will switch your old number to your new sim. Until that's sorted you'll have a new number, which will then be replaced by the one you want.

PS. Started my first contract ever aswell 2 weeks ago, i didn't have a clue what was good or bad but im happy with my decision.

Credit check you?

Hmm. I'll bring a passport and my bank details (Obviously). Will i need a proof of address?

Is it essential to get the PAC thingy before i go to T-Mobile or can they sort it?

Well they won't allow people with poor credit rating to open a contract, because they don't know if they will get payed on time if at all. They basically ask for a load of details, like how long you've lived somewhere etc and many others and then do the credit check and let you see if your eligible to open a contract with them or not.

Yeah the passport and bank details are a must, may be a good idea bringing a bill or something aswell for proof of address.

You can get the PAC code whenever you see fit, depends when your planning to get the phone as once you ask for it your current sim will go inactive and you won't be able to phone/text or anything. T-mobile can't do it for you, they will need the PAC code to switch your number to your new sim though which could take a few days as it needs to be transfered.

Absolutely. I know a few of the networks require recent proof of address so bring a bill less than 3 months old.

You sure about that? When i started my contract they asked for nothing more than my debit card. Took my details, done a quick credit check and all sorted. No bills or anything with my address on it, just my debit card. Walked away on T Mobile Flext 20 with a Sammy U600.

I did the same thing when going to get my u600 with o2, but when i looked at t-mobile first they asked for I.D and bills to provide an address. When i canceled my contract because the u600 was pretty flimsy same thing happened while looking around other stores to open a new one for my k810i same thing happened everywhere else bar o2.
