Hey guys, as i've posted before I cant use torrents on xp otherwise it crashes so I was wondering if theres a really easy to set up lightweight OS i could dual boot with? Ive got vista which allows torrents to work fine but Id rather not dual boot with that as I think it would be a waste of space just for using one program.

Any suggestions?

millions of people use utorrent in xp with no problem, haven't read the other thread

i suggest a driver update for your nic, or possibly a format

yea i thought id solved it with ss:d but i too quick to judge.

I reinstalled xp with all updates til sp3, fully updated with drivers etc but it just keeps crashing for me, its so bizzare. When I installed vista it worked flawlessly but I didnt like vista for other reasons.

Btw i guess its a hard lock?...everything just freezes forever until reboot, No one seems to know whats wrong! lol oh well.

:(

uTorrent has no issues, the nVidia firewall is the problem.

Yeah make sure the nVidia firewall is turned off. You get the option to not install if when you're installing your motherboard drivers.

Can cause no end of problems with so many programs.

oh well doesnt matter that much, i dont have either nvdia fwall or mobo.

so any suggestions as to an alt OS, easy to set up. Free would be nice but im willing to pay a reasonable price for something

whitecrook, could you take some time to just explain that to me a bit more, i dont have a clue how about to go that.

Thanks :)

You're going to need to do some research if you're learning a new OS....

I use arch linux and ktorrent, with the web UI has scheduling etc. works wonders.

Google 'arch linux' and learn, then google 'ktorrent' and learn. Both are free btw

Dual booting just for torrents seems a bit silly tbh

utorrent isn't a buggy program

maybe you've got something badly configured in xp or a bad driver

format the install and try again

nah i used to use azureus and it was worse than u torrent. Ive tried quite a few programs, it doesnt make any difference, if its a torrent, the pc crashes. sound odd i know but thats what happens :(

Ive got a fresh install of xp sp3 alld rivers updated, (Not doing it again 5 days later) barely any programs installed. Unless you have any ideas, I dont.

my pc just doesnt like the concept of torrents or something.
