Easy to set up alt OS for torrent downloads?

Do you have low disk space? a faulty HDD?

Maybe it's trying to allocate disk space before it downloads and crashes out or something.

Its downloading to a pretty new harddrive, seagate sata (less than a year) but I shall check if theres any errors

only 65% full aswell

Edit: just use HD Tune to check for errors. No errors were found, so i can rule another issue out now lol.

Heres a howto

http://www.howtoforge.com/ubuntu_lamp_torrentflux_vmware

Only thing is, if is is your hardware (nvidia wotsit) then it may be unlikely to actually improve matters. As you will still be running on same hardware. However if the limitation is actually in the (windows) drivers then you may be OK, or maybe not, as you would be runninga virtual host still within a windows host.

Regarding torrents in general, the only problems I had were with crappy routers that crashed due to the number of connections. A linksys WRT54GL flashed to dd-wrt and then connection timeouts and max changed and it works a whole heap better.

I used torrentflux a few years ago and it was really good, the web interface is pretty slick, allowing easy control from any machine on the net.

uTorrent works fine on my nForce 4 Ultra. :)

Probably drivers or the nVidia firewall causing a problem as uT is one of the most stable programs I use.

lol do people even bother reading all the posts, dunno how many times i said i dont have any nvidia hardware/software for more people to post up suggesting this is why.

lol

lol i can't believe you're deciding which OS to use because of a torrent app

lol

PS This really is stupid, you should be tracking down why your computer can't reliably use uTorrent :) Or just use another torrent app worst case scenario.

Makes sense really. Try and find out what is wrong and fix it. Changing OS is quite a drastic fix.

I feel your pain.

I'm experiencing the same thing on my laptop (Intel based).

uTorrent and others just freezes.

I'm currently using an old build of BitComet without any issues.

I'm pretty sure the fault is due to a running program conflicting with certain torrent applications, but I can't be bothered to try and find out what it is to be honest.:o

exactly, for some reason your replies just make me angry! :p

it's like buying a new car because the current onedoesn't work when you try to start off in 4th gear, some underlying problem is apparent here

does it say anything in event viewer?

start, run, eventvwr

Rofl. If i knew how to find out how to sort don't you think I would and no all other torrent apps (I've tried) do the same thing like i've said before.

So what if I'm looking for an alt OS to just run torrents. Whats your problem with that huh! ffs, and its only to run while im at work so its not really like im changing OS.

Nice to know someone else is having the same issue guru and I'm not going crazy.
What build of bit comet are you using mate?
