Easy way to reset folder permissions ?

I have an external hard drive that i've been playing with permissions with in both vista and then windows7, as in the read/write permissions of different users. But its got muddled over time and the permissions are a mess, i'd like to default them all back to everyone and start again but that doesn't seem as easy as it should.

Is there a command prompt reset all type thing ?
