Sorry for another thread on ebay but...

I recently sold a processor on ebay, everything went smoothly.

He paid by paypal, i recieved the money, and have already spent it.

He left me feedback. (Positive) Then a few hours later i reiceve an angry email, saying the item had bent pins and was unuseable. :(

But it was tried and tested, safely packed.

Where do i stand on this? If he tries to claim his money back?

In my listing i also state no returns. To stop people recieving my item's damaging them, then sending them back.
 
Did you note the details of the chip? Was it sent insured delivery?
Get him to send pics. You have no way of knowing if he has mangled it so tell him it was fine when it left so he must have damaged it and you will not compensate him. Was the packaging damaged when he received it. Also why did he leave feedback before testing the chip?
 
Im really Not Sure.

It was sent with 1st Class packaging.

Not insured though.

I'll email him back asking for pics, and offer advice on bending the pins back.

But i guess as his left me feedback, there's not much he can do.

well, nobody on ebay leaves feedback until they know its ok, physically at least, unless they are stupid.

THis guy was perfectly happy with it, and then a few hours after (enough time to try installing it, break it, and then come up with an ingenious plan to get his cash back).

Screams out that he is trying to pull a fast one. Surely ebay will take one look at the fact that he had left feedback, and leave it at that?!
 
My guess would be, he's received it and it all looked good, so he's left positive feedback.
He's then tried to use his meat mallet to bang the chip in - hence bent pins ... but he needs someone to blame - bring on the gimp :)

I'd argue the case, in a pleasant manner and if he disputes it with ebay/paypal they should pay attention to the feedback he left, oh and don't leave him feedback.

It isn't ebay who would be looking at it, it's PayPal and/or the buyer's credit card company. Even if PayPal refuse to give a refund, his credit card company might if they accept that the item was faulty. PayPal would then decide whether to hold the seller responsible, and deduct the chargeback amount plus a fee, from his PayPal account.
 
I left him feedback as i didnt realise i had recieved an email to after feedback was left.

But this is stupid, anyone could buy a processor off ebay snap a couple of pins and then send it back saying Refund please :)

I also send another 2 prcoessor's that same day which commented on my good packaging. I really dont think this guy has a leg to stand on.

I sell OEM computer parts to random people on a daily basis. Occasionally, I'll get one of these self-styled "IT gurus" (you know... the kind of people who insist they know it all and don't want advice on anything...) who will buy a processor, go home and install it, **** something up then come back demanding a refund.

Despite big thumb prints over the core, a massive chip taken out of the processor edge where he tried to wedge it in, oh, and inproper installation of the HSF.

I take great pleasure in making them feel like a complete ****... then reinforcing my five-word phrase: No refunds, now get lost!

No swearing. Read the FAQs. FF.

It's possible he banjaxed the pins trying to plug it in.
I know some one who bought a new computer and couldn't get the monitor working. I looked at the bit that connects it into the computer and all the pins were bent, some of them even falling out.
Whether this happened in the shop or (more likely) by the heavy-handed guy who reached around the back of the computer to plug it in, I don't know. The shop gave him a replacement though.
 
As already stated, he is trying to pull a fast one. Leaving positive feedback indicates he took delivery, and was happy with the item.

He's either messed up the install and bent the pins as a result, or maybe the performance wasn't up to scratch and this is his way of trying to get a refund?
Although breaking a CPU on purpose is a bit extreme, I wouldn't put it past some people.
 
Personally, I wouldn't worry, this does seem like a scammer to me, or someone who has damaged the pins himself and is trying to get a refund. Therefore, I dont think he has much chance of getting his money back to be honest.

Like,

Dear Customer,

You left postive feedback clearly stating you were happy with the item. I'm happy to offer guidance on bending the pins back, but will not be taking a return. Feel free to take this up with ebay, but i strongly feel this will be a waste of your time.

Yup, sounds good to me :)
 
Take all your cash out of your paypal account as he WILL get a refund for product not as described !!!!

I have just finished a 4 month battle with paypal trying to get my money back after they put my account in the negative I sold a gcard and a month later after the guy alleged he got out of hospital fit the card he said it didnt work ....I got him to send me the card in the meantime paypal refunded him his cash when I got the card it was missing components ect ect

Anyway I chased paypal got sworn statements police reports but the only thing that made paypal give my money back was contacting the financial ombusman

That won't prevent you from getting a chargeback. If the amount is £100 and your PayPal balance is zero, your balance will simply go to -£100. Oh and with a chargeback fee on top of that.
