Need some help guys.

If i were to sell an item on ebay, say worth £300 and i had a buyer and they paid through Paypal, if i waited for the money to transfer to my bank account and then sent the item, am i right in thinking that the person cannot rip me off then and try to get money back, especially as my paypal account will have zero in it?

Reason i ask is that i am afraid of being ripped off and as we all know, paypal always side with the buyer!!

I have seen loads of stories of people losing the item and having to return the money as they have been clearly ripped off!

I think your buyer would be really hacked off waiting for his money to be transferred out of Paypal. If you don't trust Paypal ask for a different payment method.

Andi.

Is the item you selling likely to have a problem?
Never had a problem with paypal users before, you can do it that way, but make sure you explain to the buyer that you want to do this to avoid arguements.

Not really if you state it in your ad, then they don't have to bid, or state it will be shiped 3 or 4 days after the end of the auction.

try to get as much info on the listing as possible.

take loads of pictures of said item.

try to get the buyer to have at least 100+ feedback(less likely to be a bad buyer)

if im selling something expensive then i ask the buyer to contact me if they have feedback below 100,if they dont ill remove the bid.

i have over 550 feedback all 100% and have never been ripped of since ive been with e-bay.

as for transferring the money into your bank account...dosent really matter because paypal with take the money from your paypal account even if it zero and put you in the red and demand the money so either way you lose

Wrong, if PayPal decide to refund the buyer, your PayPal account will go negative.

Then PayPal will get the debt collectors onto you.

If you ensure its posted to the exact address as supplied via PayPal and sent a secure postage method with signature (that is trackable online) then you should be fine.

But withdrawing the money won't make any difference..

Nothing will happen for 30 days after the purchase (standard timing for lost items), as schizo said moving the money to your bank account makes no difference, paypal will still take it.

Just make sure you send it special delivery (or whatever) and make sure you have the listing written out in as much detail as possible, keep up communication and just give them (buyer or ebay) no reason to have a problem and you'll be fine.

What if i close my paypal account after the money arrives at my bank?

I just sold an item for £300 and told the buyer before the auction finished that i would wait for the money to clear to my bank account and now he is not happy with me!!

I did explain this before the auction ended when he contacted me asking about the item.!!

He sent me a message just saying: 'Revenge is sweet'

Also, i closed the auction and then we done the deal 'outside' of ebay but still with paypal!

The Ebay saga continues! If there's one thing I have taken on-board perusing this forum, it's that Ebay should be avoided, especially as a seller.

What? Why would you do that?

eBay is perfectly fine, my mrs has sold thousands if items on ebay, she has 100% feedback and has had maybe 2 issues in the last few years of being on there, you just need to cover yourself with T&C's and make sure you detail everything including your policies regarding returns etc... so you always have something to go back on.

But surely he can't do anything as i closed the ebay auction as requested, did the deal outside ebay but still with paypal and then am waiting for money to get to bank and then i will close paypal account!!

I don't blame him, I would feel the same. This is disgraceful service and totally unnecessary. You are no more protected with the money in your bank account than it sitting in your PayPal account. If anything you are adding unnecessary delays. As has been said before, if you don't trust PayPal then don't use it. Follow the guides relating to sending items prompted via a recorded service and you will not have any problems (other than the item being faulty).

Why? You have the money, send the item and stop being unnecessarily paranoid/irritating. All you are doing is delaying and annoying the buyer, I wouldn't be surprised if he did something out of spite tbh.

It doesn't matter if you close the account or not. They can and will chase you for the money.

Nothing wrong with eBay, there are dodgy buyers and sellers all over, not just there.

Wait a min. He asked me to end the auction so he could buy the item. He knew i would wait for the money to go into my bank account. He then sent me a threat!! I have every right to be concerned etc.

Why do people have problems with buyers getting goods and then claiming not to have received them when it is obviouse they have and then paypal getting the seller to refund the person!!

If the buyer wants his money back, he'll get it. Ebay side with buyer 90% of the time, usually completely irrationally, and PayPal will refund him.

Removing the money from paypal will mean they will just debit it from your bank account.
Closing your bank account will mean a £300 unpaid bill delivered to your door, which will eventually become a legal issue.

Save yourself the bother. Dont sell high value items on ebay.

If i was the buyer I would be wondering to myself why this seller needs the money in his account before he posts it, what is wrong with the item that means it is likely for me to send it back.

It has been said loads already be smart with ebay and you will be fine make the listing completely perfect and they can't do anything when combined with trackable signed postage.

But, it has been sold 'outside' of ebay as requested by the buyer.

I told the guy i would have to wait for the money to go into my bank account first and he agreed that would be fine. I asked for this as i have been ripped off some time ago and ebay / paypal were murder to deal with. Now he is moaning he wants the item straight away or else!! This has got me thinking he is definitely not a nice person to deal with!

Looking at his feedback he has had a few negative feedbacks. My fault as i should have checked those properly before agreeing to trade with him.

As mentioned above it will make no difference what you do to be honest unless you just refund the money and don't send the item.

Paypal will attempt to deduct the money from your paypal account, or bank account and they will pursue it through debt collectors and I am assuming they must have your address so you wouldn't exactly be hard to track down :p

- If you close your paypal account, close your bank account and move to a different country... then maybe you can get away with it ;)
