Ebay Advice

I think it will be down to the way the seller handled the situation.

To use your example of the speakers we would need the speakers and stand to be sent in separate boxes. The sellers would then need to claim the courier has lost the item. But you would then provide proof that they were never sent. Then the seller would say, No worries i will send out a replacement item and then 3 days later they then turn around and say infact I will give you a refund at around 1/3 of the value of the missing item as we no longer have the item in stock. Only for you to then find that the item is in stock.

If you were Ebay and you saw this you would be worried about the impression this seller gives to the buyer on the entire ebay platform. So they need to "punish" the seller. I'm sure if they had attempted to handle it better they wouldn't of been penalized as much and they would have just been forced to pay return postage and give a full refund.

Agree you'd hope eBay properly investigated this and didn't just default fire a refund to the buyer without considering the nuances

If they were worth £150 then that should have been offered, if not a bit more for the trouble. What eBay have decided upon seems to have gone in the complete opposite direction on the buyers favour.

Looks like i need to contact ebay

bought an item some pins to hold up shelf, i bought 2 lots (so expecting 8) send me 2 instead, immediately sent them back, seller only partially refunded me, and i cant put a claim in for the rest (i paid via CC)

Just a word of warning with that, I sold a non faulty item on there, the buyer claimed it was faulty and requested a refund through eBay, then refused to send it back. When I spoke with eBay and PayPal stating that the buyer was a blatant thief I got a scripted response that it was their policy. After a week of daily calls to eBay and PayPal I think they got fed up with it and refunded me, the seller. Caused another torrent of abuse from the buyer and I simply explained that he could always return it!

I couldn’t help but notice he left loads of negative feedback for other sellers on there, which I managed to get removed from mine (I doubt many buyers look at it now anyway), he is no longer a registered user so I wonder if eBay just got sick of him and closed his account. After all that I’ll only buy on there as it’s not worth the hassle.

Just be cautious though that there is the risk the seller could keep on and win a dispute as it does seem a fairly harsh outcome.

The golden rule is, don't use eBay unless:

1. You really need the particular item and it isn't available anywhere else.
2. The item is of insignificant value and/or importance to you.

so i emailed the seller, his repose :

Considering ebay charged me £3.25(!) return postage because you incorrectly selected not as described i think you are quite ahead here wouldn’t you agree?

Thats not my fault is it ? , items sent back, you refund me, simple no?

Say what you like about ebay, it has it's faults but it still is the best way to sell off items you no longer need. Just remember to deselect the global shipping when listing items to save a world of pain.

An overseas buyer can put in a claim and then you have to deal with ebay in the other country, not UK ebay, to resolve any issues. Ebay UK will try and transfer your call but it is a real hassle.

The don't accept returns only supposed to protect you against people with buyers remorse or people just wanting to try the item out for a week before returning it. In most cases they will raise a 'not as described' case leaving you with the only option of reporting them once you get the item back.

I guess if they get too many reports against them then ebay will take action.

Ebay is by far my most used retailer

I sell and buy a lot on there. I don't think I've ever had a problem not resolved correctly.

As an low volume seller there are no real alternatives

No. Claim. Or Put pressure on seller stating your going to eBay dispute. You might get a few more quid. If not satisfied then open a case. You are the customer. Why is all this your issue. Not good enough.
