I was going to suggest QXL... then I saw http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/07/qxl_online_auction_shuts/.

Locally we use TradeMe. At first I didn't think much of it but eBay have no presence down here. It still amuses me that unique auctions and TradeMe dealings make the national news. Just yesterday there was a story on some user getting banned for selling un-approved power adapters
