Ebay Business Idea

It's called drop shipping and amazon and ebay love it... it means more sales.. whats not to love!!

margins are relatively small but its volume you are after, £10-£20 profit is good.. more if you can get it. Plenty of software out there that tracks the price of your items on amazon and adjusts your ebay price automatically.. even orders the item and ships automatically when someone buys it on ebay!

remember, not everyone wants to buy off amazon... for one, you cant use Paypal and that is a huge draw for some people.

The item arrives marked as a gift with no indication of price.

Don't eBay charge 10% of auction price?

Yes, so if your Ebay>Amazon margin is 15%, then your final profit will be 5%.

a lot of companies run very successfully with 5% profit margins (high street retail clothing is typically in the 5-10% range), especially ones that don't need to pay for business premises or hold any stock ;-)

somethings can be a significant difference in price and many people simply don't shop around.

also by losing a small bit of profit, you can have it pretty much automated.

but like a lot of things you need some capital.

Amazon is actually more sharky than eBay. Their fees are higher. If you contact sellers supplying Amazon most will be happy to provide the goods with at least 12% discount. There are already several businesses (flubit comes to mind) doing purely that - supplying the same goods you find on Amazon, often from the same suppliers, with lower fees thus sharing "markup" with you.

As long as you take into account ant fees/tax I don't see anything wrong with it, the item in question would have to be significantly cheaper on amazon.
