Ebay dispute

Before Xmas I sold an RC Aircraft. I clearly marked in the description it had been unused for a year and would need a new lipo battery. On top I said it would best suite an enthusiast as it may need some setting up and even possible some new electrical parts.

It sold for quite a bit and I dispatched and received positive feedback saying it was exactly how described. This morning I received and email saying the buyer had lodged a dispute with paypal.

He said he had taken it in a model shop (he knows nothing about RC plane apparently) and the electrics have burnt out. In his pictures it has clearly had a battery burn out as there are burn marks that were not there before.

In addition the air frame is severely damaged and I would say it has been heavily crashed. It was perfect before with no damage or scuffs.

He is demanding a full refund plus the item as compensation for ruining his sons Christmas. He is also threatening to come to my house.

Whats his chances?

I assume you still have photographs of the item in the condition at the time of dispatch? I.e before damage to the frame occurred.

Sounds like a no brainer to me, but then again I was in a similar situation and Paypal sided with the buyer. As another member suggested, it would probably be wise to remove any funds from your Paypal account.

I'd remove any/all cash from your PP account just in case.
Pics prior to shipping will be VERY usefull especially if these show there to be no
scorch marks of frame damage, he did sign for delivery and leave eBay feedback already stating condition accepted after all.

He's blatantly set it up wrong and knackered it.

If he is threatening to come to your house (i assume he doesn't mean for a cup of tea and to talk it over like civilised humans), i would definitely mention this to Paypal. Show them the pictures. Show them the description in which you mentioned the electrics might need repairing. Show them that the airframe was completely undamaged and unscuffed when you sold it. Let them know the price of it was £300 and the buyer bought it for £120 so it is reasonable to expect it to not be in tip top condition - even though you stated all of that anyway. I don't think it would hurt to mention that as a RC enthusiast, your opinion from seeing the pictures is that it has taken quite a knock, probably from a crash landing.

Contact PayPal and quote his threats and the links to the original pictures listed on ebay. He is obviously a bully trying it on because he has ruined his sons christmas.

I don't believe he even needs to point this out to eBay/PayPal, if you look at the small print when opening a dispute, I believe eBay is privy to all messages sent between users when trying to sort it out.

If he is throwing about threats, they are going to know and it won't do him any favours.

I'd also add that even if they sided with him, he would still have to return the damaged product, there is no way he can keep it and have his money back.

Well it was on my partners account and she has taken the money out so it is just showing a minus and dispute raised. We have replied politely asking why he was happy with it on the 15th December, but then unhappy after Xmas.

He is going on about the Gyro has burnt out but it does not have one on this model. It is a proper aircraft that is only advised for expert flyers. Something he clearly is not.

Sounds like someone trying it on, rather that taking responsibility and accepting that they've broken the item in question.

Are you able to show eBay the threatening email regarding him coming to pay you a visit? I can't imagine eBay would take kindly to that.

If the buyer left good feedback though surely that should be case closed ? Sounds more like he flew it into a wall and now wants a refund for being a moron.
