My auction has just ended on ebay for my macbook and someone in the last minute bidded with 0 feedback and abroad. my auction states no abroad etc.

how can i resolve, ebay help is so complicated and goes round in circles.

thanks

I'm guessing you didn't have the options set to block overseas bidders then?

Do a 2nd offer to the next highest bidder is the easiest option.

its a right pain the rear-end.
I take it the second chance has to be accepted first. so ill end up having to relist I bet anyway :(
just noticed I can go to the resolution centre either until the 4th august.

I'm due a new mobile contract.

Last week I finally decided that I'd get a N97, and then sell it on eBay; thus paying off either most of the contract or using the money for something else. I started the listing; and within two days it was filled with bids from people who had 0 feedback and had just joined that day. I tried sifting through, sending emails to those whose details were present and deleting the non-responders or those without contact information, but it was hit and miss and in the end I cancelled the whole auction.

It's a pain in the rear and it was really blindingly obvious what was going on.

eBay seemingly doesn't give a crap about these things and it's really dug the knife into sellers these last few years. It runs an awful ship, and it was damn cheeky of them a week or two ago to ask their own members to sign that petition. **** right off.

It's simple.
Block all bidders with a rating of 0 or lower.
Block all bidders from outside the UK.

Sure you'll lower your potential number of buyers, but those left and those that bid will have had an account at least some time (1+ rating) and be based in the UK.

Simples.

When ever I've given second chance offers, they usually get accepted. The problem is the person you're offering to might think you got a mate to bid the top bid so that their bid would be the highest it could go and you'd get as much as possible.

Ahhh ebay just sucks now.

Cant leave negative feedback to the buyer! Redicilous.

If i get ripped off or scammed, then the next person to sell something cant see any negative feedback . .

Ebay is just a rubbish market now, its just another junk store or place to get cheap bits and pieces imported from Hong Kong etc.

Cant remember the last time I sold something on ebay, I dont think I'd sell anything vagualy valuable on there any more. Far too many scammers and too many / easy ways to abuse Paypal.

You need to set your action setting right before you put an item up for sale or you are just asking for trouble. Sorry but Ebay has been this wa for a long time now, there's no excuse for not educatin yourself how to make the auction process less dangerous.

Local newspaper, advert in village shop window, free ad paper, and I'd use MM on here if I had anything I needed to sell, but at the moment I dont.

Last decent PC upgrade was pretty much 12 months ago now, from Athlon X2 to C2D.

You can explicitly block users from abroad and with low feedback from bidding, and it doesn't cost a thing, you don't really have any reason to complain...

+1. Do this myself, it's in the listing options, well worth doing these days.

Still worth a go. Do it ASAP though! :)

there's no excuse for ebay allowing such a mass of scammers, fakes and dodgy accounts to exist and spoil legitimate auctions with no seller protection any more

Fixed that there :p

Oh... whats that, Ebay cant afford it? Awwww poor them, only $327 million profit in the first quarter this year, time to tighten the belts up!

The simplest answer for you all is - don't use EBay.
Ebay charge a relatively fair fee to put your item up for sale to the largest potential market possible.

It is up to you how you limit that market.
If you want to try and get the very best price - then open your auction up to everyone anywhere.
But guess what - there are people out there who want to spoil your fun and if at all possible scam you out of money.
These kind of people have existed for many hundreds of years - simply known as criminals.
Whereas it was once in the street it is now all done online.

Now if you take some very simple precautions, realise that your main market is actually the UK (cheaper for shipping anyway) and that you only want people with a little auction experience bidding (1+ rating) you can have a nice secure auction with no problems.
Sure you might not realise the very top price for your item - but because of the precuations you know the sale will go through and all will be happy.

But of course that is too easy - it's far easier to stomp feet, moan and complain and shout at a large company for "not doing it right".
Bit like leaving your wallet hanging out of your rucksack on your back and then moaning that the CCTV camera operator didn't catch the thief who stole it.

i got an email off ebay to say the final bidder was fake and the refunded my auction and to relist again, i contact the second chance person and they bought it, but for a bit less. oh well still happy, however i sold something for £340 and ebay & paypal have taken nearly £45 of that lol
