Now lets take it to the next step of the thought process. Why might they want to raise fees?

Because they want more money? It's simple isn't it?

Someone cancelling a transaction that's taken place in person with a cash payment is the same as not going through eBay at all.

So by that logic, anyone not using eBay makes eBay raise their prices.

In the real world, it's because they have got the online auction market corned, a lot of people rely on eBay and a lot of people use it for bargains (I've had many a silly bargain from there) so people will still use it even if they put the fees up.

So why don't they set fees at 50%?

They don't hire business strategists to roll a die on how much to raise fees each year.

Except I'd refuse to do mutually cancel and file a breach of terms report. Someone else benefiting like this only gives ebay reason to raise fees when at the end of the year they decide they aren't making enough profit.

I would inform ebay you never paid for my item or turned up and cancel the transaction without your consent, either way I wouldnt be paying fees, bit of a dumb thing to do really, and pointless on your part.

Ebay is too expensive, just avoid the fees it's easy to do so.

Taking into account the fees I don't see much of a difference really.

Might work the first time, ebay communications will likely prove a policy breach. Ebay wont take breaches like this softly, after all it is their income stream.

works every time. Its ebay policy, there are so many non payers, they have to do this to ensure sellers dont lose out, as sellers make ebay, no proof of sale, cancelled transaction, end of story

They're trying to get me to pay the listing fee for my old car but it didn;t even sell! the winning bidder gave me some crap about his kids or something and backed out so I cancelled his bid. it sold elsewhere!
