I have just sold an item on ebay and in the paypal note it says...

Hi,

Please use non-recorded post as agreed. Because i probably wont be in to sign for it, and with the current weather I don't know how easy it will be to get to the sorting office. Please pack it carefully to prevent further damage. Many thanks

Seller has confirmed uk address and 350 positive feedback. Paypal recommends 'Use a postal service with signature confirmation' Should i just send it?

I always send stuff i sold on feebay recorded/special delivery or courier, with signed for at delivery even if it costs me a little extra than i charged. never send anything any other way you WILL feel the pain when a cliam is made trust me....

If they aren't going to be in, tell them to leave a note on the door. I do this all the time and just ask Royal Mail to leave recorded parcels behind the side gate. (as long as it isn't something really valuable)

then theres no point in proof of postage, if the postie is just allowed to leave it? Or does the postie sign for it?

cheers. just sent him this

hi , forgot to say. Feel free to leave a note on your door for the postie to sign for it. People have done this in the past with items i have sent

thanks

another reply...

Hi, Please dont make your mind up yet!

With non-recorded 1st class post, if you get a cirtificate of postage when you send the parcel, you will be covered up to £39 should the item get lost in the post.(http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content3?mediaId=50800721&catId=400029)

Our postie will not sign for parcels, they say they would lose their job for that.

It is most important that you use Royal Mail because I have had nothing but trouble with couriers. I have found Royal Mail most reliable.

Feel free to check my feedback, you will see that Royal Mail, non-recorded post was used in the vast majority of sales and is usually the reason I chose a particular seller.

At the end of the day it is your choice.

However you send it, I look forward to receiving it soon. (please let me know when you have sent it and what postage service you chose)

Thanks again

problem solved, my choice, So sending RM 1st signed for

Just send it recorded and then send him the tracking number through ebay (so it's logged in both of your ebay messages).

If he's not in when it turns up, well that's tough ****...he'll just have to collect it or arrange another delivery day.

Recorded is basically a waste of money.

I only use it if I want to send a letter to a company for extra effect.

It offers no extra security or value asides from the signature.

If it goes missing it would have to be claimed in exactly the same way and rules as standard post.

It is just as likley to go missing as normal mail, as it is handled in exactly the same way.
