eBay: How is it possible to continue using eBay with the new few structure?

So recently eBay have raised the final value fee to a flat 10% of the item's selling price without this being capped. Therefore, if I want to sell a computer for £200 for example, eBay will take the listing fee of 40p and then £20 in final value fees! This is without the 20p + 3.2% slice of the pie that PayPal take as well.

How is it therefore viable to use eBay going forward? Previously I would have expected to pay about £6-7 for something of a similar value to the example above. It leaves me no option but to look for something else, but what? Ebay is the only vehicle that allows me to reach so many people, I just have to pay a hefty premium to do so!

And herein lies the problem, Ebay has a monopoly and they know it, so they can charge what they like. I generally use gumtree, or more specific classified ads depending on what I'm selling, and then as a last resort I put stuff on eBay. It's a pain to say the least, but that's life.
 
I think it's obscene that they continue to crank up final value fees. Such a shame, really. It's not like their overheads have gone through the roof.
 
The thing with eBay though is it sells your stuff. When I use trade-it/gumtree I get mostly time wasters, spammers and scammers contacting me. So you're paying extra for the convenience. But the whole paypal double whammy does take the pee.

I'm occasionally a bit cheeky and list things in cheaper categories that have lower FV fees on BIN's.
 
It's ridiculous as it's the buyer who loses out because the seller will need to pass the fees on. I can't see how eBay can justify it, I'm not receiving anything new or any new benefits/features that justify the hike in final value fees.

My problem is that I simply have no alternatives.
 
Ye this has seriously infuriated me lately, I sold a comp for £300 and well its a pain in the ass knowing how much ebay will then take.

I try and use gumtree and other classifieds. What about the members market on here?

They are probably forced to raise the fees to cover insurance, scammers and people who cancel transactions.
 
ebay has been gradually moving towards a model which is too expensive for private and small business sellers.

recently they increased buy-it-now fees to match auctions, ensuring i wont use it to sell again.
 
Dont say eBay is safe!

I waited 15 days for payment including a dispute for some brembo brakes i was selling, the guy even had the nerve to say he sent payment first thing and i never got it. Then he was saying he wasnt getting my messages.....Argh im sick of eBay!!
 
eBay is basically turning into a huge collection of people flogging bulk bought crap in Ebay stores and nothing more.

Sigh.
 
You'd like to think that people would vote by leaving Ebay in their tens of thousands, but they won't, which is why Ebay can abuse the position they've created.
 
I only buy from eBay now, there's too much hassle selling which considering the idea behind it when it started is a massive shame. Unless you're a business who can afford the occasional loss (and sell large quantities of stuff) I think it's too fraught with scammers.

This.

It's the same with Betfair and their ever-increasing Premium charges, people do all of the hard work to make consistent profits for themselves and Betfair/Ebay etc just tax the **** out of them to fill their own wallets, they know there's nothing the user can do apart from moan or get a proper job.
