eBay Issue

It's not a brand new watch is it, you've said yourself you've had it since last year. Straps vary enormously in quality.

Getting a new strap seems like the most pragmatic option here.

that's not great but it doesn't look a great strap, they ought to replace that but I would imagine a new one would be of same quality

as I don't think you have anything to come re the accuracy issue you may as well just get a new strap unless you really want to press them on principle

It's been too long and the seller no longer has any obligation to assist you as far as PayPal and eBay are concerned. And quite right too.

Also, you don't buy a watch from Hong Kong via a seller in the Netherlands unless you can afford to the lose the watch and the money, surely?

The strap has worn at a far greater rate than it should, which to me highlights the fact it's not of an acceptable level of quality. A watch strap should not become useless after 3 months.

I've now opened a PayPal dispute.

Rule number 1 of eBay. If the listing look like that, it is most likely to be fake.

Did it come with a Seiko warranty card?

As for accuracy. Seikos are not regulated at the factory and the 6R15 movement is renowned as being either super accurate or miles out.

I have 2 watches with this movement, a SARB035 and a 17 alpinist. One gains 5 secs a day but loses it overnight face up, the other loses 15 secs a day and doesn't gain anything regardless of how it's kept off the wrist. I'm considering whipping the back off and giving the regulator a nudge TBH.

As for strap quality. Stock Seiko leather straps are generally regarded as rubbish quality wise. All of the money is used elsewhere on the watch.

Unfortunately it is likely to be fake. Most high end items sold on ebay are fakes hence why they are on ebay. I bet you wish you had paid the extra £80 now and got a genuine watch. I would push for a refund from Paypal, who wants a fake watch anyway.

The actual watch looks real, it shows no signs of being fake and genuinely looks of decent quality. It could be fake but I'm not sure either way.

I'll check for the Seiko warranty card (it'll be with the box in the loft).

I'll push PayPal as part of the dispute saying the strap quality is not acceptable and I believe it could be fake.

When I first contacted the seller via eBay about the poor quality they didn't defend themselves, they just asked for my PayPal address so they could check their records - they've now completely stopped replying to all messages.

No matter how bad the Seiko watch straps are suppose to be there is no way I'd expect it to be this bad. I've had a Superdry £40 watch with a similar strap which I used for a few years and that was still in better condition than this strap after 3 months.

You're investing a lot time and energy thinking about ways to make this simply fixed problem take up even more of your time.

Diagro is right - go to shop, buy a strap you're happy with and move on with your life.

£250 for a Hong Kong Seiko? You can get a Hong Kong Rolex for £75 mate.

It wasn't £80 cheaper, it was overpriced by about £225.

looking at feedback etc I see no reason to believe it's fake but you have to take note of the fact that 270 quid is not a lot for an auto watch
