Hi,

I won a cheap PDA on eBay a week ago - The listing title was for a "Palm Pilot" but the body focussed that the seller did not know much about PDA's and was selling it simply as he found it in a house he had bought. The image on the auction was of an M5** series PDA. I assumed the "Pilot" reference was down to lack of knowledge about PDA's more than the person referring to a specific model.

Roll on this morning when the posty arrives with a package for me (Though already a mistake - The guy wrote 21 on my address instead of 12... Thankfully the posty must have been thinking) - Upon opening the package the item was a Palm Pilot Personal... The much older model.

I emailed the seller explaining that this did not fit the item description and the photo was very misleading and that even somebody who did not know about PDAs would realise that a photo had a mains cable in (for example) yet his package did not. The eBay auction certainly did NOT mention that the photo was not of the item for sale.

I received the following reply:

"that was only a photo, i just took that photo, of some one selling, it , at the end of the day i found the item, just stick it on ebay, i had 8 bidders, who knows, you poberly get more..."

The guy has two negative feedbacks and both of these have resulted in the other party (That in both cases seem to be genuine) also getting negative feedback.

As this item was only worth ~£6 I am not too fussed about getting into a real issue and getting a negative against my name (Got 100% positive currently) but morally I am not happy with what is going on.

Do you suggest I respond, if so with what? Or simply leave this guy to his old tricks?

PS - I am sorry for those that do not like eBay threads. I just felt I'd rather ask here than on eBay and as I've never been in this situation (Or felt so ripped off) I'd like to find out what the best line is...

Yes I did... Though I'd rather retain my 100% positive feedback than £6. I just feel a bit miffed that guys can get away with this and there is nothing in place to stop the innocent buyers coming out just as tarred up as the sellers - And this over a small amount... Feel for those who loose out over much greater amounts :(

There's nothing you can do really. The feedback system is flawed. Just wait and hope that he leaves you some positive feedback. Send him an email saying "Yeah you're right, it's actually really cool and I'm loving it now. Will leave great feedback, hope you can do the same!"

Wait and if he does, hit him with a hard neg, right in the crotch.

If I do that can he retract feedback or change the feedback that he leaves me to negative?

Nope!
He can leave a response on his feedback page to what you've said about him but he cannot write anything else on yours, and unless you mutually agree everyone will see your positive and his negative.
 
Sounds good. I have sent him an email...

Is it possible to report the seller to eBay/PayPal *after* feedback is left? Either simply to inform them or get money back. I am also almost certain that he is using several accounts to improve feedback between them.
