Ebay - possible scammer?

Here's what you do, take the paypal payment then just move it straight into your bank account and make sure there's no money in your paypal. Then just wait until the paypal money is actually in your bank account before sending the item. That way if he tries a clawback he'll be on to plumbs.

Doesnt work, i got scammed out of £130, did exactly as above, but PayPal gave the money back to the fraudulant account and left my PayPal in -£130.

Just ignore it, Dont deal with people outside of the UK.

So the moral of the story is that Paypal is pointless then? You will always be srewed over and live with it then?

Its funny i was on another buying website for people all over the world and their forum was full of people talking about nigerian scammers, so its definitly not just a british thing. How ever did nigeri become such a bad place for trade?

Not necessarily. If you ship to people in the UK, to a confirmed address and use a trackable method of delivery then you should quailfy for the seller protection policy, and not be at risk of chargebacks.

Mine was in Indonesia, they even gave me a phone number, which i rang, and some guy picked up and kept saying hello, i could hear a busy street in the background. So in anger i just shouted "give me my money back you ****"

im so mature

I really can't be bothered with the hassle so I've ignored his question. There's plenty of people watching, and with the bidding already up at a good price, I'm not really too bothered if he doesn't buy it!

I also checked out his user ID in ebay, according to them he's based in the US. So why does he want me to post to Belarus...

Yes.

If you keep all of your dealings within eBay, you are better protected.
So they say, but what protection do they actually offer? Very little from what I've read. IMO it's more likely to do with protecting their income than protecting us against scammers.

Maybe I've just chosen well, but I've bought several items from ebayers without going through ebay with no problems at all, including one HDD when the seller sent me the drive and said pay me at the end of the month when I got paid.

Unfortunately RMRD and RMSD aren't counted as trackable by Paypal as far as their policy goes, and I don't know what they do consider acceptable.

Log in to your account preferences and ban him from bidding on any of your auctions?

YES they are. Re-read their terms and conditions, those two are specifically mentioned as acceptable.

My bad - I was going on what others have said when they've come up against this.

Notice the little get-out lower down in your link (my emphasis):
If these details map to the buyer's postal address shown on the Transaction Details page, PayPal may consider it as sufficient proof of delivery. However, since availability of delivery details cannot be predicted, sellers may not be able to rely on this method for proof of delivery in order to be covered by PayPal's Seller Protection Policy.

That's probably the reason for people saying RD & SD aren't accepted by paypal at a guess.

SO i guess this all begs the question - is there any foolproof way of selling things to overseas bidders?

Cash only? Bankers draft?

No, that disclaimer is for international deliveries, not domestic. Recorded and special delivery are fine.

The *whole* quote...

Note: Royal Mail does not officially provide online tracking (with proof of delivery) for the International Signed For service. In some instances however, delivery details may be available online. If these details map to the buyer's postal address shown on the Transaction Details page, PayPal may consider it as sufficient proof of delivery.
