Hi guys - I just sold my playstation vr headset + sony camera +wipeout+vr worlds on ebay for only £130 (thought I would get more to be honest). The winning bidder has 130 positive feed backs but I have just been sent this message which I have copy and pasted below......

"Hello there i am the winner of this proud winner of this item, and i have every intention of paying for this item on 24 hrs from sending this message, however after now just reveiwing my bank account i have incured a unexpected payment which has left me very short of finances, i only send you this message to ask if the follwing would be at all possible, IF BY ANY CHANCE that i can not aford to pay tomorro the next avialble time for me to make payment will be on the 19th ( 9 days time). Could i possible pay you a small cash amount tomorro as i show of good faith to show you that i am comitted to paying for this item on 19th of this month , if by any chance i cant pay tomorro ? .... im sorry for any inconviences that i have may have caused you, please reply with your thoughts on this matter"

What are my options in this situation and what would you do if you were me ?

Thanks for any advice

Give him till tomorrow to pay and if nothing then relist. If an 'unexpected amount' has left him with less than £130 in his account it's probably not a great idea to be blowing all his money on the item anyway.

You are well within your rights to expect an immediate payment if not within 24hrs. Waiting 10 days isn't fair on yourself.

Not worth the risk to me. If he is genuine then he is messing you around because he can't afford it. If he isn't genuine (it could be his account hacked rather than the ebayer him/herself not being genuine) then he might claim not delivered, agreed new price of £30 or something...

Send the buyer a payment reminder then raise a case for non payment, if he does not pay within 3 days I think then you can claim your final value fee back.

Relist it as fixed price, say £150 with best offer and immediate payment only. Suggest using Collectplus for postage as they have the easiest claims department with a person with whom you can talk to and they pay compensation straight into your Paypal account.

You sold all that for £130 minus 10% ebay + 3%? paypal fees? Damn!

Sell on the MM, surely you will get a lot more than that? Unless they have dropped like a stone

although I do feel your pain. I sold a really nice set of alloys (£800) for £65 on ebay as the mrs was moaning at me to get them out of the garage. Couldn't shift them anywhere else....and they were almost brand new. You live and learn.

Always sell high value items with an inflated buy it now price
At best offer

This allows you to select who you sell it to.
Any buy it nows will be scams (as price is high)

Just done this with a 500 lens. Only way to be safe
It's how I sell all my computer stuff

Well I sell mostly a number of small items on eBay and I've had a few people message me like this.

In general, when the feedback is positive and there are no negatives ... I accommodate them because they had messaged me. Most people are appreciative of that consideration and I'm usually not in a rush to get the cash.

It is up to you but they can still give you negative feedback for cancelling the order if they choose to.

Yeah definatly cancel and relist your item to much of this happens on eBay it’s really annoying!

I’d tell him to pay a non-Refundable £30 deposit and if he doesn’t pay the rest by your deadline, you will put it back up on eBay.

This seems like a good idea, tell him to Paypal gift you a deposit and you'll refund it when he has payed in full. If he's genuine I don't see why he why he would have a problem with it.
