Ebay question

Whenever I see posts like this I usually answer thus:

If the roles were reversed what would you expect the other party to do for you?

I don't mean that in an OTT way - I mean you could expect them to refund double the amount as a goodwill gesture etc.
But I mean on a serious level, if they were in your position and you in theirs what would you expect/want to happen.
Now work around that to a mutual completion.

People do get angry online when they are mis-sold items etc
Usually a little understanding and a few messages later and you can come to an agreement.

ny online retailer, for instance, will (or at least should - most do) cover the cost of return postage if you return something that's incorrect or faulty.

I can't think of any retailers online that do this... In fact, anything I've had to return I've needed to pay the P&P.

Tell her that you will refund the money for the Item +p&p when the item is returned to you and has been checked.....
You are not responsible for her return costs.

Also advise her that the goods are her responsibility until returned to you safely - and if damaged or lost in post no refunds can be made.

That's exactly the method that I have been told whenever I've ned to return anything bought from Ebay. A bit of a pain, but it's kind of accepted as the norm on Ebay.

I would offer a full refund on the price she paid upon return of the goods at her cost. It sounds to me like she is trying to get you to refund the cost and let her keep it as it is easier.

From the Distant Trading Regulations:

- You must refund the consumer's money even if you have not yet collected the goods or had them returned to you buy the customer. You cannot insist on the goods being received by you before you make a refund.

- If the goods are faulty or do not comply with contract, you will have to pay for their return whatever the circumstances.

Which backs up what I said before.

I can see where online retailers come from as high street retailers wouldn't refund your travel costs to return an item, it's the same principle.
Well online transactions are covered by the Distance Selling Regulations, retail is not.

Just ignore them. You are a private seller I doubt they are going to take her to the small claims court over a top!

Did she pay via paypal?

If she did, tell her to open a dispute. Paypal will tell her to return both items to you. Only then will paypal refund her automatically once she has proven via trackable post that you received it back. You don't have to refund her the return postage.

Feedback is everything on ebay, if they've already left + feedback, the worst they can do is follow up their comment with a bad one, it would still show as + on your record though.

Ignore it.

From the Distant Trading Regulations:

Exceptions to the regulations

The regulations do not apply to:

* financial services
* sale of land or buildings
* purchases from a vending machine or automated commercial premises
* the use of a public pay phone
* auctions, including internet auctions
* rental agreements that have to be in writing (i.e. a lease for three years or more)

It therefore doesn't backup what you said before at all.

She's obviously doesn't like the top, I know for a fact if a girl liked a top she would keep it no matter for the little inconvenience of hand-washing it. As said she is a bit of a tit tbh :D

Ah nice one, didn't see that. :p

But I still think all the costs should be refunded, law or not.

:)

That's fair enough, in normal circumstances I would agree that a full refund is fair, but that never seems to happen on Ebay, and as mentioned above she is probably only wanting a refund because it doesn't fit / she doesn't like it ;).
