Hi guys, basically on 17th July, I found a phone on eBay and decided to buy it. I checked the description after and it said 10% off if paying by bank transfer. But by that time it was too late. Seller has since listed many other expensive items which people have also purchased and not received. So I am not the only victim. I filed a item not recieved on paypal 4 days ago, the problem is the seller has given a false tracking number on 18th. Do I stand any chance of getting my £499 back? It is on pay after delivery and it's coming out of bank account on 31st. Much appreciated guys.

I'm confused. Too late for what, the bank transfer option? Did you consider that? If you did, don't do that ever again as your buyer protection goes down the pan if you do.

Assuming you paid by Paypal, within eBay's payment system, you'll probably get your money back. If the tracking number is fake then the n that'll work in your favour too as he'll need to provide it to Paypal and they'll check it.

If however you made the payment outside of eBay then you're screwed.

Yeh I paid it through paypal on ebay, so now I should call bank to stop it? Or phone paypal? I'm worried its gonna go in sellers favour because he provided tracking number. But they have not looked into it enough.

What does the tracking number say? ie does it say it was delivered to your address?

If others have had the same problem, I'm sure PayPal will side in your favour.

Like I said, the tracking number will be checked, I know this because I went through this recently, except I was the seller. Royal Mail screwed me but it was my own fault. They took the money and refunded the buyer. You'll be fine, raise a case on Paypal, or call them (their service is surprisingly good).

Ok cheers guys, the royal mail tracking just says The system is currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference number------ please try again later.

I reported 8 different gumtree experiences. What they tried to do was email a fake paypal email and no funds where in the account so I reported the users and forwaded the email onto paypal/gumtree support with the scam message. Then messaged the users to say they had been traced and police where on the way.

Who's the seller? let us check the account out.

You should be able to cancel the payment going out, make sure you report them!

I think he's aware of that, it seems more like that line was a giveaway that the seller was likely a scammer.

just raise an item not delivered dispute through ebay and they will require tracking that shows item delivered.
you may have to wait a certain amount of days before you can open the case, but without tracking proving it was delivered I dont think paypal will send the money to the seller.

If you paid by PayPal you are fine, if by bank transfer you are screwed.

Some people are really dumb, take my sister for example. My mum wanted some garden chairs, sister found some on ebay and for some strange reason decided instead of using her own paypal and getting cash off mum she would just photograph mums credit card (both sides) and send it to seller via ebay messages... Then i have to deal mess.
