Ebay scammer help please

If you paid by PayPal you are fine, if by bank transfer you are screwed.

Some people are really dumb, take my sister for example. My mum wanted some garden chairs, sister found some on ebay and for some strange reason decided instead of using her own paypal and getting cash off mum she would just photograph mums credit card (both sides) and send it to seller via ebay messages... Then i have to deal mess.

Aweful even thinking someone would do that. Cards should have another verification now instead of numbers been on the card. Pin machines that generate 2FA codes or something.

Maybe give out cards that don't have numbers on them and the numbers are on a letter.

It's slowly starting to be phased in, you'll need a one time code that's text to you or generated through your cards app to confirm the transaction.

OP, you might not get your way via eBay support. This is because I filed an item-not-received dispute and eBay sided with the seller because he provided a tracking number. The tracking said that the "item was in my blue bin", but there was nothing in it and I checked other blue bins (and other coloured bins) around the neighbours. My house wasn't carded so they obviously got the wrong house. This was "good enough" info as far as eBay was concerned and I was still out of pocket. Both the seller and the courier were useless as well when I complained via their channels.

Also, the eBay dispute channel is automated, i.e. processed by robots.

HOWEVER, if you raise a dispute via Paypal, you have better chance of it going your way because it's done by humans on there as opposed to robots/automation. I was able to get my money back, then I purchased the same item again from a different eBay seller and it arrived ok.

Ok cheers guys, the royal mail tracking just says The system is currently unable to confirm the status of your item with reference number------ please try again later.
The Royal Mail thing is still an ongoing issue, I've been trying to track quite a few letters I've been sending out to clients over the last week and had the same issue. So to all intents and purposes it is a legitimate reference number.

Could even have been posted to a neighbour, either in your street or a neighbouring street and a random but similar name, something simple like a parcel with something Haribo inside, as far as eBay/PayPal are concerned it has been delivered. Surely though they will refund you, especially if enough people get caught up with the same scam.

To be fair, that sounds right, surely? If I sold something, paid a courier and the coureir is saying it's delivered, I'd be annoyed if eBay took my money back and I was out of pocket. Surely the claim would need to be raised with the courier as they've delivered to the wrong place? Mind you, on an expensive item you'd want 'signed for' delivery which might help.

Yes, I've long realised that nowadays when sending or receiving it's all about the delivery company. This is why when sending items of any value I will always use signature on delivery with Special Delivery and once it gets too heavy to make it feasible I'll use UPS/DPD. There tracking services tends to be very detailed.

I had similar recently, sold something on eBay (£280), buy said he didn't receive it.

This is where I screwed up, I used our work franking machine and stuck a signed-for sticker on it. As the RM stuff is always collected by our courier, I simply flung it in the post bag and forgot about it, which came to bite me in the arse. Eventually started digging, the courier company don't provide receipts and merely drop our RM stuff off at their local PO and don't get any receipts, so I had nothing. On top of that the postage I used is only insured up to £50, another screw up on my part. Luckily I was able to find the tracking number as I'd photographed the package before sending. The RM's tracking service merely said "this will be updated when the package is delivered", ie. it's only signed for and doesn't include tracking. I contacted Royal Mail, who told me straight up that they could see that the parcel entered their network, but couldn't find it. They admitted it was their fault but because I didn't have a receipt they sent me a few postage stamps and a rather smug FU. Certainly learned me lesson with that one.

Ok well I been in contact with paypal, and they have said the seller has 4 days left to respond otherwise they will refund. They also say they will deny the case if he uses that tracking number. Fingers crossed.
