Ebay woes

Does the laptop serial number match that of the box? it sounds like the classic swap scam tbh. You should always make a note of serial numbers before selling especially when using Ebay.

That doesn't apply unless you sold as a business.

None of it matters in a private sale.

This is what I told him, oh well. I look forward to receiving the letter from trading standards. :p

It is definitely the same laptop I sent him.

Do you have contents insurance? You could always claim the damage on it and get your money back from the insurer.

While I can't really afford to be £300 down I don't think it would be worth claiming on and anyway it's more about the principle.

How do you know? if he's really cunning he could have swapped the internals/hard drive. Is there anything in his Ebay history about buying a faulty laptop same model as yours? :p

I'm not really sure what you can do, it's either the courier or his fault so I don't see why you should have to pay. Did you send it insured for damage? if he's admitted to the damage then he should surely be the one to take the hit.

I know it's mine because there is a wear mark below the keyboard (from hours of WOW). :p

I sent it insured, he did not return it insured. I've told him he is responsible for the return postage and if it wasn't insured he will be liable.

I'm in shock.

Ebay emailed me on Friday to say that a case has been raised and they would be in contact within 48 hours.

48 hours. "We have reimbursed the buyer, pay up".

Annoyed, I call them today to appeal their decision. I didn't think I would get anything out of it but I wanted them to be aware that I wasn't happy.

5 minutes later - "Your appeal has gone through, you no longer owe us any money".

So, I have the money earn't from the sale and an (albeit faulty) laptop.

I take it this never happens??

I stopped using ebay a few years ago because somebody did this on a phone of mine. Got it , scratched the **** out of it and then sent it back claiming i sent a used phone. Paypal refunded him and took £400+ out of my bank. The little scrotum was laughing all the way to the bank.

In my opinion ebay and paypal need investigating as they are the same company, ebay force you to accept paypal, withhold money on new accounts and any retard can claim money back long after they have bought it and i for one cant see why this has been allowed.

Ebay is nothing like it used to be, its just a big ripoff!

Matt

Why was he laughing all the way to the bank, when he surely just ended up where he was before the transaction?

Ebay and reimbursed the guy for the money. They told me "you don't have to do anything else".

Why would I need to send ebay a faulty laptop. What are they going to do with it?

Sounds like eBay are refunding him rather than asking you to.
Would be a good time to get a claim in on the insurance you took out in teh first instance as it would apepar they've damaged either teh screen or mainboard.

You haev all the packaging, AFAIK thats all they need to see if it was adequatley (sp)packed.

I had this with a PSP I bought recently (albeit for a far less amount).

It was faulty when it arrived, and I tried contacting the seller, but he wouldn't respond. I put in a claim and got a "courtesy refund" (within about 10 minutes!), which a bit of Googling informed me was where Ebay had refunded out of their own pocket (or insurance or whatever). I also got to keep the faulty PSP - sounds like you may have had the same? (but from the seller's PoV obviously :))
