If i was to outbid someone such as yourself i would need to put say £100 on the £8 item.

It would then over write your bid and i would win at £8.

Simple as that

if i was just to bid £8 though i would not win.
It should auto-bid up to the next increment though, not let you win on the same bid.

^^ Not sure why it does that. It seems if you put maximum bid of £8, he put a max bid >£8.

When the auction ended his max bid took effect and it classed him as the winner with £8 even though it equals your max bid. Bidder's priorty?.

The way it works is, if you put in your maximum bid as £8, but the current bid amount isn't listed as £8, then some one can put in a higher bid than you, and it'll automatically jump to your highest bid but give them the lead, it then takes some one else to do the same thing for them to lose their place too.

Ah, this is it, your auto bid must have gone in at the increment below £8, maybe £7.50 or £7.95, or even £7.99 and his has been the next auto-bid at £8.
