Looking for some advice please for an Ebike for my 79 year old dad.

He's been cycling around only like 10 miles at most really but unfortunately from Nov to now he's been battling cancer but far as we know the radiotherapy has killed it and he's good again (been a long few stressful months).

Prior to this he's been taking my son out on his bike weekly and he wants to get back to it but he needs to be a bit careful. So me and my wife are looking at buying him a Ebike as gift for completing his treatment.

I honestly know nothing about them but have looked around and found something like this
https://ebikefactory.com/uk/getting-back-into-it/elysium-relay-17-250w-9ah.html

It does up to 29 miles which I'm sure he'd not do. Looking at spending anything from £500 to around £650 if any one could advice or recommend any looking like a mountain bike ( like the link above) please ?

Also i assume you have a button you press to give you the help on the handle bars or something ?

did post this in the bike section but had no response so thought a wider spectrum here someone might be able to help .

Thank you .

For 500 to 650 - they're all going to be about the same (i.e. rubbish) so the bike you linked is fine if that is your max budget. For a 79 year old though I'd be looking for something with a step through frame - something like https://www.e-bikesdirect.co.uk/ele...-dutch-style-electric-bike-6-speed-700c-green

Technically throttles aren't legal in the UK. They will nearly all be pedal assist, but they will have controls that adjust the levels of assist.

Also, ignore any range statements. Assume 15 watts per mile for a UK road legal bike. If you have a 36v12Ah battery that means 36v X 12Ah = 432watt hours. 432wh / 15watts/mile = 28 miles average range. this will obviously vary up or down depending on the amount the rider pedals, hills, wind speed and temp etc

Thanks for your reply yeah my dad hates those frames won't entertain that idea lol ! Prefers the mountain bike type frame ,

The wife did fine this one on ebay https://www.amazon.co.uk/Swifty-Ele...RJRBNWW39C4&psc=1&refRID=BDQKBKR9JRJRBNWW39C4

He's really active etc just needs a little boost now after being poorly but he doesn't want to stop going out on his bike .

Thanks

As I said, in that price range they are all going to be about the same but that one does look better than average. Disc brakes are a nice addition (even if cable operated) and it has a rear hub - - never been a fan of front hubs esp with cheap forks - they have a tendency to snap the drop outs if they aren't fitted with toque arms.

Only a 36v9Ah battery though - so don't expect 30 miles range - would prob be closer to 20 miles. No problem though, as you can still pedal an ebike with a dead battery - so really the range is unlimited ;), esp if he's already riding 11miles unassisted.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and for the information appreciate it .

What condition is his current bike in, and is it a decent bike/might be worth looking at buying some light weight/comfort upgrades for that?

Yeah it's had plenty of wear to be fair one reason looking at buying a new one for him and to help him a bit more on it .

Make your own, buy a decent bike and buy the parts from somewhere like here - https://yosepower.com/collections/e-bike-conversion-kit
Both of my bikes have those parts above, they come with throttles and are very easy to install.

Amigafan has way more than me.
