I have an ECU that has been causing problems for a while and i finally found out that it was in fact the ECU getting wet causing the problems today.

Unfortuneatly I found out by removing the plugs from it and taking one of the pins from the ECU with it.

So now I am looking for someone to put me 2 new pins into my ecu and replace any others that might fail any time soon.

I am based in derbyshire so anywhere close would be nice.

Thanks
James

What car is it?

You may be able to find one in a scrap yard or owner's forum from someone breaking a car!

Alternatively, have a look for a local TV repair shop (a proper old-skool one - one that has soldering irons and bits of old TVs lying around everywhere ;))

car is an audi s3 this is a common fault so very little chance of finding one second hand

As long as you have the bits that require repair, this should'nt be beyond the scope of anybody who can use a soldering iron (TV repair man for example) the trouble is, he'd have no way of testing it so, you'll just have to hope for the best - you'd have no comeback if it still didn't work.

I'd imagine most Audi independent specialists would have come across this if its a common issue, perhaps they know of a fix?

Tried any Audi related forums / user groups?

Who manufactures the ECU? If it's anything like the modern Delco units fitted to Vauxhalls they are pretty much unrepairable, because the circuit is on a ceramic hybrid and the pins are attached via aluminium bond wires that are spot welded onto the hybrid. The whole circuit is encapsulated in a clear gel to prevent moisture ingress. These also suffer from loose/displaced pins, but the only fix is to buy a new one unless you have a wire bonder; they can not be soldered.

If it's more like the traditional Bosch Motronic ECU's they are very simple to repair, but then again I've not heard of pin comming loose on them.

if you can take the wait send it to the ECU doctor in Plymouth. These guys are legends and if they can't fix it they don't charge you.

The very same people that said they couldn't touch the Delco one :D They are generaly very good though.

It is a bosch motronic one.

The reason the pin has broken off is because the rubber seal around the plug was damaged apparently and has let water into the pins which has over time corroded the pins and caused 2 of them to snap off when the plug was removed.

The other plug on the ECU for the engine management side of things is fine dry as a bone in fact.

James.
