It still is fact, I was not talking cost and I have had my Ultra well before the GT arrived and have already stated anyone buying 1 over a GT today is mad or rich.

Facts are Facts.

Why are you telling me its a fact as if I said the Ultra is not as fast as a GT? I am totally aware that it is faster than a GT lol.

The fact its G80 means limited overclockabilty.

I just don't get it if its true.

Did the G80's not overclock like a house on fire?

GT's are pretty much the same, I'm guessing all these GT's getting 710+ are on 1.1V cores too, I'm getting just as good overclocks almost on my GT as I did with the GTS. 122Mhz overclock, 300Mhz on the shaders, and 200Mhz on the memory.

I want news of 64bit nvidia GPUs, not more rehashing of old tech on smaller processes. I don't care so much about performance (although the 'true' next gen will undoubtedly be 1TFLOP+), but 64bit will bring about native double precision, and allow me to accelerate my simulations by a factor of at least 20 to 50 Single precision kills my stability.

Come on nvidia, AMD have announced 64bit GPUs, where are yours?

Well the GT is not the best fastest card this year (you said that above), its the best value fastest card so far this year .

I have had a 8800 GTS and GTX and it didn't clock anywhere near GT speeds.Thats the beauty of the GT.


My GT is 720/2044 and its on the stock cooler and stock volts.

Haven't even tried water and more yet.Look at the 06 marks thread with GT beating heavily overclocked GTX's.

I'm using CUDA, and I don't have the time or motivation to switch to CTM, so I'm pretty much bound to nvidia. Besides, it's easy to exaggerate about performance, but support for 64bit floating point calculations isn't something you can really twist; it's either supported or it isn't.

Err don't you mean highest clock not overclockabilty?

My GTS G80 overclocked from 500 to 648 which is a 29% overclock and some people had their GTS cards running at 670 which is a 34% overclock.

The best G92 GT overclock i've seen is 760 from stock of 600 which is only a 26% overclock.

And unless there is something wrong with my system my new 8800GT running at 720/1950 only scores 200 more points in 3dmark06 than my 648/2000 GTS.

Of course, I would expect real game benchmarks to show a wider gap with my system but the point is a overclocked G80 GTS with 112 sp and more ROP's clocked to 650 will probably at least match or outperform a GT in games. Reason, the one review site I saw the new G80 GTS matched the GT but since a GTS can be overclocked by a bigger margin than a GT, once both are at their maxxed overclock you will have a GTS about 10% faster than a GT.

And in certain games the GTS still pulls ahead because of it's extra memory and bandwidth even at stock speeds.

If the GTS is G92 with the extra SP then I see a point.Other than this its a waste of time.

12,591 with my 640MB GTS @ 650/2000
15,554 with my GT : 720/2044

Thats 2963 extra points in the benchmark both with a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz

Never said a GTS would do 760. But top clock speed and overclocking are two different things.

Take the 8600. It always came at stock with a faster core speed than a GTS but it didn't mean it was a faster or better card.

You are still talking about top clock speed and I agree, the GTS will not clock as high as GT. But then an Ultra doesn't and it's still faster than a GT.

My point is from stock a g80 overclocks by a bigger percentage than a g92 therefore the g80 are technically the better overclocking cards ignoring which is faster.

And yes £60 for 10% increase some people will say is mad, others won't and the GT will still be the best bang per buck. It's all relative. If you are building a new rig costing a £1000 and you spend another £60 to make it 10% faster in games then you've only spent 6% more for a 10% faster system = worthwhile.

And finally I am sure there will be a G92 GTS cause somewhere on this forum somebody posted a couple of weeks ago to either Nvidia or EVGA website where it mentions in the smallprint about the 8800GTS 512Mb. It was relating to video or something but there is no way can a 512Mb GTS be a g80 core.

EDIT: Going to check my system out tonight but it could be i'm cpu limited since it's only an AMD.

So would I be right in thinking that we'll start seeing proper specs of the new 8800 GTS 512MB on the 3rd December, but they won't be available to purchase until the 13th? If so I can live with that, as we can all find out on the 3rd / 4th if they are worth the cost.
