I need to spend a day working at our site in Edinburgh before Christamas and I'm thinking about doing it on Friday the 18th of November. The company will pay for my flight up and back so they don't care if I fly back on the Friday or the Saturday.

If enough people are interested then I'll do it. Who (if anyone) would be interested in a mini-meet in Edinburgh on Friday the 18th November? Basically it'd be meet for a meal and then a few beers or a cheese infested :D club somewhere?

Aye, I had a mini-meet just outside Gloucester when I was down there but missed out Newcastle because I had to do stuff out of hours.

Edinburgh should work though, Friday night, couple of weeks notice :)

Not booking the flights until I have anyone confirmed though, that'd be bad if I ended up being Billy-no-mates out by myself.

OK, so we've got a minimum of a couple of people, that's enough for me. I'll see if I can book the flight tomorrow and confirm it :)

My plan would be to get the red-eye to Edinburgh, do what I have to do at site and be away from the site (Leith Docks) by 14:00 at the absolute latest :)

That means I’ll arrive in Edinburgh at 09:20ish, get myself to site, do the work I have to do there and get away mid afternoon, taxi to the hotel and then I’m free for the evening.

Suggestions of where to go would be good? We’ll need food, beer and dancing in that approximate order. I reckon that somewhere cheesetastic like a Chicago’s or similar would work but I'm open to suggestions as I don't know what's what or where in Edinburgh at all.

Getting back together on the Saturday morning would be good as well for those who are local (plus I'll be on the look out for a ride back to the airport ;)).

Aye, I stayed at the Piries many years ago, it was OK then.

Regarding scoff, the meet needs to be Vixen friendly, that's an absolute essential.

I'm not sure about the idea of a club though. It won't be a big group and clubbing isn't exactly the best way to actually talk to each other.

The Potter film interests me though, even though it's not exactly the best way to actually talk to each other! *oooops* Maybe those who are interested could sneak off to a matinee viewing (probably only two people that I can think of).

I'm not really bothered where we go, but I also am not keen on a long walk back afterwards. I just don't want to do a club for reasons mentioned above.

Pyro - You've not read the first post fully, I'm working in Edinburgh on the Friday and am just extending my return flight by 24 hours so it's not a flight just for a few beers (although it's not such a bad idea ;))

I'm hoping Vixen will poke her head in here shortly because she knows the name of the restaurant that we're going to, and I don't.

We are definately going to The Festival Tavern, but not sure if that's a good place for us to start off. I don't have the local knowledge to advise on that.

Anyone who needs my mobile, email me (in sig) with yours and I'll pass it on.

I expect to be on site by 10:00 and probably clear just after lunch, so I'll be checked in to the hotel and available mid afternoon.

I sent a text to my local wireless station this morning.

"Dear Et. Tomorrow I'm flying to Edinburgh and will be having a jolly night out with some chums. Knowing how investigative you are, can you find out what the weather's going to be like tomorrow evening in that part of Bonny Scotland please"

Five minutes later I got the rundown live on air (they love me at the local wireless station). 4C during the day on Friday, -3C overnight and 7C on Saturday so Vixen is right, it's going to be damn cold.

So, I'll go with her suggestion of a Pizza Hut for scoff, but I'll be ready for beer before that for anyone who's about in mid afternoon.

Feel free to email me for my mobile number and text me when you're ready. Vixen, you said about car parking, but is there anywhere near the hotel you could park earlier than 18:30? I don't know what the regulations are in that area but if you can make it earlier then that'd be good.

One more sleep (and an early night) to go :)

No-one has contacted me for a number so I hope we're all mobiled up. I'll check my email in the morning and reply in case anyone has mailed me. I'm off to bed very shortly as I have an early start, around half past five.

We'll all hook up around 17:30-18:00 tomorrow evening either around our Hotel or in a pub not far away.

Excited now :)

Oops, I got the timing slightly wrong above - It'll be from 18:00 to 18:30 that I reckon we'll be getting ready to rock and roll.

I'm on site and working, but I've not got toooooo much more to do thanks to a very helpful guy here who's made it incredibly easy for me :)

It's cold folks, minus five is the forecast for this evening.

A thoroughly enjoyable late afternoon and evening with a great bunch of people. I saw some new faces and some more familiar ones and I hope to meet all these folks again.

Got into bed around 03:30 (at least, checking my phone that's the time of the last text I sent last night) and was woken up at about 06:00 by a somewhat energetic couple in the room next door in the hotel. I only really dozed after that, didn't get back into deep sleep.

Vixen may have posted above saying she was home at 01:16 but she did come back out again \o/

Who doesn't like their pictures posted online? I'll not be putting up loads of people pics but I just need to know if there's anyone apart from Von and I that I shouldn't be posting. I'll also only post tasteful ones as there are a couple that are not really suitable!

Regarding the dorises in the hotel, how much of a coincidence is this. On the flight up there were a group of women sitting close to me, one of whom had an awful 'Nadia' laugh. Loud, obnoxious and continuous. They were talking about their plans for a night out, part of the plan was to wear 'pads' so they could go for a wee without having to leave the bar :eek: They were supping vodka's on the flight which departed Stansted at 08:00.

These women were staying at the same hotel as us!

And they were on the same flight back, but were a bit more subdued on the way back than the way up.
