My elderly parents recently got switched over to EE and their digital phoneline (replacing a standard phone connection from Plusnet), but are finding it very problematic, they have two of the white plug-in phone adapters each with a standard wired phone connected which are connected to the main hub over wi-fi, they don't have a phone connected to the router itself as it is in an inconvenient location.
The main problem is that the phone seems to just stop working on a regular basis (every few days), if calling in it will ring for a while before going to the BT answer service (so just seems like they aren't answering) and if the phone is picked up there is no dial tone. The only fix seems to be to unplug and plug back in the white adaptor. Obviously this means they can easily miss calls including from doctors and hospitals etc., even checking the phone regularly doesn't help, my dad picked it up yesterday at about 4:30 to confirm it was working before I called about 4:40, by which point it had stopped working.
I have tried switching the two plug-in adaptors over but both have the same issue, so it's not just a faulty one, and the wi-fi signal to both phones is good (only about 5 meters from the router with either a single floor or wall between them).
Any suggestions? I'm going to try a temporary fix of moving the router and plugging one of the phones into that to see if that is any more reliable, but if they need to do that it is going to require rewiring or new DECT wireless phones, which they don't really want as they have nice simple large button phones that they know how to work, and most of the wireless phones seem to be smaller and more complicated to use.
One other issue is, the two adapters seem to only work individually, with only the one that is picked up first actually connecting, so you can't have both phones active at once to have a 3-way conversation like you could with the old land line, is that correct and does connecting one phone to the router help with that?
