The mobile company EE is to end its Orange Wednesday cinema deal.

The offer, which allows Orange and EE customers to get two cinema tickets for the price of one on Wednesdays, was launched more than 10 years ago.

The company said that customers' viewing habits had evolved and it was "time to move on", with the promotion ending on the last Wednesday in February 2015.

EE was created from the merger of the UK businesses of T-Mobile and Orange.

"Orange Wednesday launched over a decade ago and at its peak was a massive success and an iconic promotion," the company said in a statement.

"After 10 great years our brand has changed and our customers' viewing habits have also evolved so it's time to move on.

"That's why the final credits will roll for Orange Wednesdays at the end of February 2015. We're working on new customer entertainment rewards and we'll provide more detail soon."

With more and more people watching films on their tablets, phones and TVs at home, the number of people using the Orange Wednesday deal has declined.

It is thought that EE could not reach a commercial agreement with the cinemas.

Get them in while you can!

Was a useless promotion for anyone who didn't live in the middle of nowhere and didn't want to share their cinema experience with rowdy plebs.

Tried it a couple of times, never again, worst cinema experiences I've had.

My friend had a Cineworld annual pass so my ticket was always free on a Wednesday as her pass counted as a purchased ticket. Im going to miss free cinema :(.

I'm picturing some form of movie streaming service, especially with Vodafone getting cosey with Sky!

Cinema is becoming less appealing everyday.

I go at least around 3 times per month and am getting annoyed with the price increases, noise problems and just **** service in general from Vue cinemas. I just purchased a 3D projector so am going to just wait until movies are released on Blu Ray instead.

Never used it that much anyway, and it now means Wednesdays will be more palatable in the cinema (not that I go often), but it is also another reason why I can move over to three.

Then again even my Unlimited card experience has worsened with the introduction of allocated seating and their premium chair nonsense. Booking a seat in advance gives a load of people excuse to arrive late once the film has started and then you have latecomers who've no idea where they're supposed to sit so get their phones out and shove the light on. That being said I get more than enough value out of it currently so will continue to fork out the £17 or so; 42 films this year.

Worst one was for The Winter Soldier this year when a bunch of teenagers arrived late then started talking to themselves, then had the audacity to SMOKE. Despite someone else clearly going and complaining to them the staff didn't kick them out or anything.

and you didnt think to go and complain yourself?

Grow some balls.

Cinemas are too expensive anyway so I never used it. I go off peak when I do but then again. I live 20 mins away from a "deprived area" and they built a Odean where all showings are £4 all day, everyday :)
