I know theres already an EEE pc thread but i just have one question which size is best, if i were to get a small external hdd or a large flash pen, would 2gb be enough just for the operating system and small amount of work or is the 4gb the one to go for? i will be mainly using it for notes in lectures and email/internet.

Thanks.

4GB is the better vaule imo. with the 4gb u can change the ram, IIRC the 2Gb ediotn you can not change the ram.

Remember you could get an 8GB SDHC card and the SDHC slot on the lappy.

If you're *just* going to use it for notes and internet/emails then a flash drive/ext hdd/SD card would be fine with the 2g but you might feel like you should have got the 4g if you fancy running XP or doing anything that requires more RAM (as Oxy pointed out RAM is fixed in 2g).

What ram does it take? whats the best to go for? can you get a usb pen big enough to fit xp and office on and would this then work if it was inserted all the time?

if you want to get the most out of it then i'd never buy the 2G but if you have no desire to increase memory or run multiple o/s off the SSD it's probably not an issue, you can tweak XP to fit on the 2gb easily.

good USB flash pens are faster than SDHC generally but i'm using a combination of both with mine to get the most portable storage i can.

the cool think about SHDC on the device is that it's unsighted.

and say i get the 4gb version, whats a good set up, e.g. 4gb sd and a 4gb flash drive or 8gb sd or 8gb flash drive or external drive? which would be fastest? and i don't have a card reader on my main pc which i would be transferring data with.

Get a 4G model, a stick of 2GB ram which takes 2 minutes to install, and a 4GB or 8GB SDHC memory card, and you'll be sorted.

I picked up a White 4GB last week and installed..

into it.

I'm now running Windows XP on it with 3gb free on the onboard drive with the 8gb used purely for documents and photos.

Lovely little thing. Not a replacement for a fullsized laptop or a desktop. But for the price I'd say it beats a PDA anyday.

ive heard some bad stories about 4 and 8gb sd card not working correctly with it, is this true? ive got a 2gb sandisk ultra II that i can use for the moment. i should be ordering my EEE in the next week or so :)

I can't say I've heard of any issues with the high capacity cards.

My 8gb works like a charm.

was that the pny you mentioned earlier? i was looking at that card. how fast is it, i read the whole '60x faster' but how does it compare to the ssd in the EEE?
