Effect of new gen gfx on build

I have been asked to build a new system for a friend with a lan party happening on the 14th (i know!), i am lending him a old 8800 GT so the current card is not the issue.

I would just like to ask whether it would be ok to do a build now? and then wait to see how the gfx market pans out or would i be foolish in doing so.
What adverse effects (if any) would occur to the build if i was to do it now in accordance to:

It would be silly to buy a new gfx now, the 8800gt will be fine for the lan party, handle any game on high if not full settings, with the exception of crysis.

i know that is why i am holding off, but i just wanted to make sure there wasn't something i have missed regarding the new gen cards

ensure that the PSU you spec for his build is future proof and you shouldnt have any problems, a mobo that can run your 8800 will be able to run the new gen cards.
