EFL Cup Final Manchester United v Southampton ** Spoilers ** [26th February 2017]

Didn't watch it but it sounds like Saints didn't deserve to lose.

The result is what it is though and it's good to still be winning trophies. Also, it's funny to see people coming out from the woodwork to have a dig (not just on here), clearly you're doing something right when people feel the need :D

All hail Ibra!!!!! The guy is a machine. Rooney is an amateur in comparison... well, it's not even fair to compare.

I do feel for Saints a little , they definitely made it a fabulous game

The other forwards just weren't clinical enough (not that Utd don't have that issue most days of course)

A little??? We beasted you for most of the game and were denied the opportunity to force you into chasing the game after 10 minutes, that surely deserves more than a little :p

Was a bit of a game of two forwards though, remove Zlatan and Gabbiadini and that game would have been boring as sin in comparison.

Not sure what to think of Gabbiadini really, need to wait a little longer to see if he can maintain it. He's hardly got an impressive career goal scoring record at the various clubs he's been at. Second goal was a great finish though.

Great performance from Saints and Utd did look jaded throughout most of the game. Zlatan, what a guy. Lacks a bit of confidence I think, probably needs to work on that. Phil Nev made a very good point that Pogba should look no further than Zlatan as to the player he should become in terms of leadership. Good foundation for the end of season push

His movement in the box is what really impressed me.

I suppose it depends on the service he was getting. We've been providing some great service all season with no one bar Austin reliably converting. If his previous record was restricted by poor service, perhaps the opportunity rich life he'll lead at Southampton will allow that record to improve.

I will say so far he looks much more of a poacher / converter than a creator. He'll vanish if he's not getting fed chances by those behind him. Compared to someone like Long who will make himself opportunities if needed but subsequently smash it into Row Z in his current form.

Zlatan his presence reminds so much of king Eric. Really is such a shame we never got him sooner. Also that smile on SAF's face at the end. He seemed really proud.

Regarding Mourhino and his face. I think the pressure was just so immense it was hard for him to take it all in. This game was basically the turning point for us. If we lost tonight I don't think we would have recovered and it would have been all down hill for the rest of the season. If we can get a result against Chelsea the world will be our oyster.

Its no way as cut and dried as that, too many games yet to go and at the end of the day for Utd's pre-season targets, today was meaningless except for a bit of mid-season motivation.

For instance , lose (or even draw) one of the EPL games coming up prior to the Chelsea (EPL) game and imo because of the two postponed games it will be really hard to catch up with the top 4......and that then puts even more pressure on the Europa league where anything can happen (like the blatantly off-side goal against us in the group stage that lost us the game).

Another season in the Europa league or worse will kill Utd's momentum , it will become nigh on impossible to get the targets in the summer required without getting more unproven players that we are only just managing to get out of the club.
