Hi guys. I foolishly left my 400D ontop of a pretty flimsy tripod and it got knocked off - the lens took the brunt of the fall and as a result the plastic threading on it snapped off and the lens can't be secured on. The friend who did it has kindly offered to pay for a replacement but obviously as it's a kit lens it's in short supply - but I also wouldn't mind replacing it with a better lens and just paying the difference (we're saying that the 18-55 costs around £45 as that's roughly the difference between the body kit and body alone).

So the advice I'm after is what to replace the 18-55 with! I've also got a nifty fifty and a 70-300 Sigma, so something around the same focal range seems best. Answers on a postcard! :)

if you don't have much money, then the 18-55 IS is a better lens, it's the new kit lens but with improved optics and a great IS system, you'll get it for around £100 if you look about.

I'm getting a EFS 17-85mm IS USM soon which is being used to replacet he kit lens on 400d
