Thanks for your replies so far, but what about the last section of my post:

"Also someone said that changing your body as a gym junkie is 75% food? this cant be true? can it? I mean, obviously you have to eat well and go to gym, because doing both work together, like if you eat crap and go to gym then obviously your not gona get anywhere. But I always presumed as a percentage that the exercise was like 65% and food 35% so to be told food is 75% seems a high figure? What do you think?"

Any ideas?

Its very much true, obviously no one can say the exact percentage but the diet is more important than the gym time for most people

It is both and neither. You lose weight by burning more calories than you eat, so you can go to McDonalds 3 times a day as long as you do 3 hours on the treadmill every night.

Might be easier to just eat less or healthier?

Reason am asking all this is because I'm a gym junkie and try my best to learn as much as possible about food. I try to keep my protein intake high, but fat, salt, carbs, calories all low.

Thanks in advance:confused:

It's called egg white because it's white

Also, the yellow bit is called a yolk :)

What's the point in using percentages? It doesn't really help. BUT, the point that's trying to be made is that without a good diet, you're not going to become big.

I presume you're trying to bulk? If so, why are you keeping your calorie intake low? without those calories, you will NEVER get big! Also, just because it is "fat" it doesn't mean that it is bad, you need fat in your diet, it's pretty essential

EDIT: If you're trying to lose weight rather than gain, those percentages are completely usless.

All you need to know is that to lose weight, the amount of calories you burn in a day must be more than what you take in.

Diet is what you take in, so you can eat less to lose weight, and gym is how much your body burns. You can exercise more to lose weight. Either way, you'll be burning calories each day :)

Well I asked all the questions because am still learning, but I am already big tbh, I'm prob the biggest guy in my gym. I am 6 foot 4, 18 stone, I used to be 24 stone and really fat like going back 3 years ago but I been going gym like 2 and a half years now and I've managed to lose over 6 stone of fat and gain muscle.

I keep to around 2500 calories a day, I'm 26 years of age, I eat a truck load of protein because I did some math and according to some websites I read and the calculations they give me I have to eat approx 378 grams of protein a day so with my 6 eggs (scrambled) in the morning, tuna on jacket potatoe for dinner and fish on rice for tea aswell as my 3 protein shakes a day I just about manage it.

If you imagine a big rugby player, thats the kinda body I have. I go to gym 4 days a week and do 4-5 hours each session. I bike to the gym aswell, its an hour there and back, and so I usually do half an hour situps and 2 to 3 hours weights once I get there. I go to virgin gym in leeds.

I feel like I've learnt loads over the years with the gym side of things and feel like I know what am doing with the gym and have a good routine. But the food side of things I'm still learning which is why all the questions. I didnt know what you called the yellow part of an egg, might sound daft.

But yeah some guy in the gym just told me all these things other day so just wondered if it was true about the yellow part being fat and if I should eat it or not.

People sometimes remove the yolks because they contain fat and cholesterol as well as protein, but in moderation they are fine.

I think this is the general truth of the matter. 6 yolks a day is a large cholesterol intake, but may not actually do any harm.

where are the gym people when you need them, Wait for Freefaller or Morba to find this thread.

from my limited knowledge they both have protein but the yolk also has lots of collesterol but at the same time also a lot of nutrition and omega 3.

Eat it all unless you are really trying to lose weight. gotta eat to gain muscle. /flexes tiny bicep.

I'm here, just have my head in my hands :p

4 hours of gym work with 2 hours of cycling, 4 times a week yet is gaining muscle on only 2500kcal a day. Amazing.

Lifes to short to be worrying about eggs. :p

Just eat the whole lot and dont be wasteful.

Someone at the gym said to me day before last that if you eat 6 eggs in the morning, when you crack open the eggs you should take the yellow bits out appart from one, coz the white part is the protein and the yellow part is the fat, is this true? And is that where the expression egg whites came from?

well done 10 out of 10 there that is why the are called egg whites because they are WHITE.
yes the yolk contains fat and let us put that into context for you.
6 eggs every morning = 6 egg yolks making it 42 EGGS in a week and you've got wait for it.....42 yolks a week sounds pretty intense to me.

Also, if this is true, I imagine the eggs tasting wierd without the yellow bit? I usually make scrabled egg with 6 eggs every morning but if I take 5 yellow bits out and leave just one yellow bit for taste as he told me to do, then I imagine it not tasting good? I've never had a egg before without the yellow bit? What do you think?

I think you should try them right now!

fat low with with 42 eggs a week? what are they eggs of a sparrow? :)

yes you sound very confused
you should go to Mcdonalds more regularly best nutrition around!

Waittttt everyday you dedicate around 6 hours sometimes 7? I don’t believe a word of that sorry, some serious exaggeration there.

Its called a hobby...How much time do you dedicate to yours?

I'm pretty new to the building and keeping fit, but I do about an hour to an hour and a half cardio Daily, except sundays. I do abs 3 times a week. and i do weight training 4 times a week.

It adds up and i love it, hense the time i spend doing it

30 minutes of sit ups:confused:

So im going to go easy and say you do one ever 3 seconds. which is infact quite slow for a sit up because you can really knock them out to about 1 a second if you want.
And if my late night calculation is correct that would mean 600 situps a session?!!!!:eek:

So what is you're actual routine plus weight totals? Because thats one hell of a session and although i know people to spend that much time at the gym id say you should keep it to with an hour and just completely bust your guts for that hour and not drag it out for 2 or 3.
So just curious to what you do in those 2 or 3 hours?:)

a hobby is one thing, this person is doing 24hours a week in the gym. if true, this is not a hobby, its an obsession. one that is detrimental to building muscle for sure.
But hey, the OP has learned so much, so its ok :p

You NEED salt to live, you dont want excess salt but dont try and cut it out altogether because you will die, quickly.

You also need carbs, you cannot survive on protein alone, you need a balance of all the food groups or your body will not get the vitamins and minerals needed, in your diet you have no dairy mentioned and no veg, both essential for calcium, minerals and vitamins to keep you healthy and working.

Stop listening to setroid enhanced gym bunnies and get yourself a good book on food and learn what is really needed to live and where it comes from!

You also need carbs

Your body can function absolutly fine without carbs, although you need to give it more fat to use as a fuel instead.
Although as I'm sure someone will probably come along and point out if I dont that the body can also create glucose from protein through glucogenisis
