Installed the X-Fi fine and plugged in the headphones as you normally would and... nothing. Looked at the creative control panel and all settings seem fine for headphones, and nothing is muted. Am I er... missing something mind-numbingly obvious?

i just can't get the bloody headphones to work... they pass no sound through at all... I can't see anything i'm doing wrong either... re-installed drivers and still exactly the same. :(

In the audio control panel the mic and line-in seem to be permanently muted... this is really frustrating i'm off to bed. If anyone can shed any light on this while I kip please let me know... I can't find ANYTHING in the settings that makes a difference.

You plugged them into anything else? mp3 player, hifi, whatever?

Tried another pair of phones I know work and no joy...

Not sure if this will help but what mode are you using? Entertainment? Gaming? Audio Creation?

tried all of them mate, no joy!

I think it's to do with this ridiculous bloody flexijack that Creative have implemented on the XtremeGamer...

Does anyone here run an XtremeGamer AND headphones/mic plugged in at the same time with no issues?

Ok can I have a big round of lollercopter aimed at... me. I have now just found that the what I thought was a glowing red LED light on the back of the card is in fact the flexijack... thats what you get for fumbling around without a torch. :o

However I STILL can't get the mic to work (it's permanently muted, tried all settings) and I can't see a way to have the speakers and heaphones plugged in at the same time so that they both work at the same time, or at least are selectable. I have to remove one or the other for one to work. My Realtek did it... so why not this?

I think this X-Fi is going back under the DSA... :(

In my settings for the extreme gamer I'm sure there is a setting to automatically mute speakers if headphones are plugged in. Also install the drivers that came on the disc with the soundcard instead of downloading the ones off the site as the site ones are really basic and the ones on the disc that come with the soundcard have a lot more features and help you setup speakers etc. I know because I've just had a load of problems with my new extreme gamer and Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 Speaker System. Some of the problems your having are similar to the one's I was experiencing, don't give up just yet :p

Well, i've uninstalled drivers and re-installed cleanly and still exactly the same... mic appears permanently muted, I just can't get it working! The fact I also can't get the speakers and headphones working at the same time like on my Realtek is shocking... i'm actually disgusted.

Yeah the Xfi control panels are fairly labyrinthine, keep trying stuff. I found that some settings are not applied until I close the panel and return to the desktop, which makes the whole problem-solving process even longer ...

I've tried everything now... there's not actually that much to try really. Cheers for the tip about settings not being saved till after exiting, didn't realise that.

Has anyone else here got the following:

1) Mic working on their X-Fi. If so please provide details of your settings.

2) Speakers + Headphones working at same time. If so please provide details of your settings.

To say i'm cheesed off that the £60 X-Fi seems to have more problems than cheapy onboard sound is putting it mildly... got my RMA number form OCUK yesterday so if I can't solve it tonight it's going back.

Joffy damn you, tell me exactly how you have it plugged in and any appropriate settings! :D

Can you get headphones and speakers to work at the same time?

Ok i'll try that when I get home... also got some new Inspire T6100 5.1 speakers too so will give them a whirl tonight. Can you get it so that the speakers and headphones are on at the same time or is it only one or the other? Do you have a link to the plantronics switch you're talking about please? :)

Thanks mate!
