Don't be disheartened, just chalk it up to experience and buy a different block (if you can easily afford to write it off).
You can also purchase a replacement nickel block base from EK directly to replace the corroded base and keep using it actually.
EK could have gone above and beyond with providing a free block, whats it to them, £19-24 block and a satisfied customer. They just fobbed off the OP and he decided to buy a new block altogether. I wouldnt buy EK after that.
what exactly did the op need to research?
he bought the kit as a complete kit,if something else was needed to stop problems arising then the advert should have said so,the onus is not on the customer to check items work together if its sold as a complete unit, thats down to the seller.
it sounds like an easy copout from both the seller and EK.
In fairness if you buy a complete kit you should be able to expect it to work as a complete kit, this is kinda the whole reason complete kits for easy entry into water cooling exist.£19-£24 fixing a problem that arises ultimately because of the lack of research and still cries about it then one shouldn't be watercooling at all.

AFAIK, it is a OcUK bundle, not a EK bundle. So I see no reason EK has to suck it up this time.
And I have stressed many times, watercooling requires research. The most basic research will already yield the knowledge that one should never use DI water on its own, regardless of whether one mixes metal. OP obviously did not purchase a complete kit, since it did not include the fluid, he ASSUMED DI water would work, it didn't.
OK, it was an OcUK bundle. It came WITH the water.
On another note, £19-£24 fixing a problem that arises ultimately because of the lack of research and still cries about it then one shouldn't be watercooling at all.
ill just leave this here...wrong much?
