EK Quantum Velocity 1700 backplate- screws do not fit

I've just encountered this same issue, backplate was ordered through Overclockers.

The backplate has been tapped for M3 screws, and not M4 which means the standoffs will not screw in to it unless flipped upside down - which then leaves you no way to secure the block.

Fortunately I have a pal who owns some taps! Drilled it out to 3.5mm and tapped with the M4 thread it should have had from factory and have now managed to install my Velocity waterblock correctly.

@fiveub - not sure whether you need to be made aware of this, but there's 2 documented cases of a dodgy EK part being shipped out by Overclockers, not sure if EK have made you guys aware of a manufacturing defect?

Just received a1700 backplate from OCUK with the exact same issue.

Edit.
Contacted ocuk and they are sending a new one out to me.

Little update, I emailed EK about this and got a reply and a replacement from them

"Dear customer,

thank you for the sent picture. It looks like the backplate must be then the issue here as the holes might not be properly manufactured, so in this matter, we would then suggest that we send you the new backplate and a spare screws so things will fit together properly.

Please, give us your full name, address and the phone number for the shipping purpose of the replacement part and please attach a copy of your invoice as well as proof.

Best regards, Aleš"

I just ordered one of these direct for Solvenia (because I didn't check if OCUK were doing them), due to turn up on 20th April. Technically cost 0.01 Euro, but with post and packing it worked out at 7 quid, so more than the 2 quid on OCUK, but hopefully it will be sans thread balls ups. Will just drill and tap if it part of the bad batch. This is going to be with a venerable Supremacy EVO block, which apparently is compatible with this bracket, even though it is marketed for the Velocity. Looking at the Velocity I can't see much difference in the basic cold plate design, so I expect the same performance as the Velocity. However, I am now umming and aahing whether I should just go for the Velocity2 which is specifically designed for the oblong core on Alderlake, can anyone here testify as to the performance difference between that and the original Velocity.

I feel your pain JeffyB! Do EK recognise this as a problem? Seems OcUK are still selling them despite me trying to tag someone relevant :(

I only got that reply from EK which said the holes were incorrectly manufactured the replacement they sent me was m4 so all good. OCUK didn't send anything else out after the first replacement (I have 2 backplates from ocuk with M3 threaded holes). If you have this issue best to email EK, I used your photo in my email to them:)
