ELDER SCROLLS MMO!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah i see, optimism. Yes its been the destruction of games before i believe. "Oh i'm sure Bethesda would do it properly" Really? Do you have any experience of MMOs? MMOs require balance or are terrible and the only way to balance TES is to dumb it down tremendously.

So where did I say Bethesda would do it properly? no where, because I don't know what they will do, just like you don't know but you are convinced that it will be crap.

Reading what you have also said about other MMO games you have played I would say that you are far too highly strung to play them and probably lack the social skills to contribute to them.

Yes I have played, and still do play MMO games, I have played OU, Everquest, DAoC, Lotro and Wow, currently playing Lotro and Wow.

You come across the type of person who starts crying when someone does something outside of your orders or what you think should be done at a given time etc...

Stick to single player games, do us all and your blood pressure a favour.

Firstly the OP title fails.

Secondly if it turns out to be true, then its a very bad move for the Elder Scrolls series IMO.

The reason the previous games where so good is that they played like a single-player MMO but without the constraints and limitations of one. Elder Scrolls is about FREEDOM of the player in an immersive RPG world where everything reacts to your decisions and alignments.

The games also thrive from having one of the biggest modding communities which constantly breathes life into the series.

If this becomes an MMO then it will just be the same old generic MMO thats boggled down the MMO world over the years. I challenge anyone to come up with reasons why an Elder Scrolls MMO would be greater than the rest that cae before it? There is nothing special about the lore of the world to say otherwise. It'll be similar to the likes of Everquest or Lord of the Rings, but probably much worse because its their first attempt.

Also if it goes through, then I feel its only going to get in the way of any standalone games and be a constant hog in future development projects.

Bad BAD news IMO. Money can move eyes, if their target audience changes, then so do their products. Hope its not true.

Yes you try and be the big man while getting bent over yet again. It is funny when people try to take the holier-than-thou route because they're afraid of actually having an opinion. You just come across as someone who read the words 'MMO' and thought it'd be good rather than someone who actually plays TES. If thats the case your opinion is worthless. This guy said it all really:

It helps if you stand back and think about what you like about the elder scrolls games, and then see how it would work (if at all) in an mmo.

To be honest the weakest thing about the games is the setting, and that's about all that would survive the transfer to an mmo.

Sorry mate, not interested, I am straight, I like women.

You go on about opinion again.

How can anyone (but yourself) have an opinion on a game that is not out yet(if it ever does come out)?

Its quite easy actually. Its this thing called a "brain". What you do is use it. Think of other MMOs, there structure, balance, gameplay, etc, think of TES, its structure, its mechanics, its lore, its gameplay, etc, and try to think how the 2 of those go together.

I notice how you avoided answering whether or not you actually play TES. You've only given evidence you play MMOs, not that you have any idea what TES is about.

Put the hand-bags away.

As I said above, I'm a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls series and I've also played a lot of MMO's, however there is nothing original in the Elder Scrolls world and lore to suggest any great idea or new invented method of utilizing a MMO setting.

Obviously I don't know for sure but its hard to see how Bethesda would come up with some new winning MMO formula using a very Tolkien-esque world. I just can't see it working at all, and if they go down that route, then its going to hurt anyother projects they work on IMO.

Yes I have played TES, all the way back from Arena and Daggerfall... so your right, I know nothing about them at all!

So by your logic, all MMO games that will ever be written will all be the same grind fest with muppets playing them.

Some of us think that maybe fresh idea could be brought to the table and maybe this could be the game to do it, maybe not... that's the point, no one knows yet and its called having an open mind.

Considering you play TES and MMO games (so it would be a reasonable assumption to think that you like the fantasy setting) you are seriously narrow minded and I do actually feel a little sorry for you.

You really don't have a clue so I am not going to bother replying to you again after this post.

Good day to you!

Logic isn't required. There will always be idiots playing them. Its a fact of life.

Anyway yes, good riddance. You've offered nothing to this thread but 'it COULD be awesome so why criticise it', when anyone who has actually thought about it and had an opinion (look around, i'm not the only 1) has said it won't be TES anymore and would suck. So i'm afraid its you who doesn't have a clue. When you find out what that squishy thing in your head is for and use it to make an opinion on why the game could be good, come back and we'll continue this, but since neither will happen, farewell.

Oblivion is my favourite game of all time, and Fallout 3 isn't far behind.

To me this is just awful news as I hate MMOs. Wish they would concentrate on a more polished single player TES V and start working on Fallout 4.

+1

The only way i would buy and play and ES MMO is if was subscription free like Guild wars.

GUYS CHILL!!! :p

I honestly reckon they'll make 2 elder scrolls titles, One MMO and one Single player. Just like FF13 and FF14 being developed together.
As for Oblivion it was one of the best games ever made, but MMO's can also be very good. I loved Vanguard: saga of heroes, which comes very close to Oblivion in gameplay. If they don't make it an MMO i'd at least wont some kind of CO-OP mode.

The mmo scene needs a big kick up the arse. Its got stale, boring and predictable - much like the fps genre. The two really need some creativity adding otherwise both styles are going to become the x-factor and dancing on ice of gaming, if they haven't already.

this is my concern, i love oblivion, true it had its faults but the game world was so open that i could play any number of ways i wanted.

can see it being yet another 'go here, kill 10 of this' wash rinse and repeat...

i hope if they do make it into an mmo they add a twist to make it a bit different. lotro was good but as much as i liked the game, the style, story and everything else as i'm a big tolkien fan i was stuck and couldn't progress past a load of 'fellowship' quests as it was very hard to get a decent group going. i hate having to rely on others in game, i just want to enjoy it my way and to be honest i can't say i've felt that in an mmo for a long time, maybe when i played eve a bit but if you aren't in a gang/corp etc. you ain't gonna last very long at all.

There is no way on this earth a MMO will be produced without the above being in it.

Its the foundation of quests, if you dont like that, i suggest you play an entirely new genre.

You can't build a house without mortar and like wise you can't build an MMO without the go here kill that quest.

SP - You are number one. The world revolves around you and your actions.

MMO - Small fish in a massive sea. No one cares what you do and the world goes on regardless.

I'm sure someone said the same about base building and resource collection in strategy games, but things have changed a lot in that genre.

I get your point, in Oblivion you still have to go here, kill that, but with WOW and LOTRO it's really just a rushed grind to get leveled up and grab loot rather than enjoying the experience, but that's just my personal take on it and how it feels.
