I have heard a lot about this game and yet have never got around to playing it.
My question is , is it worth playing now?

no reason not to play it, i still play it quite a lot, there literally hundreds of mods, both official and unofficial.

ok so it's not on par with more modern titles for graphics but they're decent enough, the game play is great, theres the main quest but also loads of other side quests and factions you can join, plus the world is pretty big and theres stat building if your so inclined

Yes, definitely worth playing if you like those kinds of games. I go back to it from time to time.

I disagree, if you crank all settings up to maximum, it's still beautiful to look at. The graphics IMO are still fantastic today, especially with such a big world. And like above has said, pick up some mods from TESNexus and you're set.

as well as the mods make sure to get the Oblivion Mod Manager and the Oblivion Script Extender

Well obviously, you can't use most mods without the OBSE and without OBMM some mods are more of a pain to install and things are generally easier.
Wrye Bash tends to be useful i think though i don't understand it myself, all i know is i needed it when i bodged together a ton of mods for FCOM.

I played it a lot around the start of the year, good game although not quite up there with Fallout 3 for me.

As a general rule the answer to "is it worth playing now?" is usually "YES!" for any top notch game released in the past 6 years.

One of my favourite games ever- quite a few people are very vocal with their dislike for it, but if you can overlook a few problems I'd still class it as outstanding.

One of my fave games of all time, i bought it when it first came out, bought the addons, expansion and the game is truly awesome, i say buy it but buy the game of the year edition for the PC and then you only need to buy the official addons from the elderscrolls store and not the expansion as they are included in the GOTY.

One of the greatest games I ever played. This year alone I must've stuck 300 hours into it. Completely and totally worth playing.

Pretty good game. I like the freedom Beth games give you. Although I prefer Fallout 3 more due to the universe. Mainly due to the overuse of magic, Lord of the Rings has it just right.

This is one of the best games I've played for a long while when it came out a few years ago. I'm still keen to get back into it to finish the main quest but not had too much time lately.
It is one massive world with loads of side quests to keep you busy and as mentioned there are some mods which will make the graphics even more luscious. I still think the graphics are okay without mods.

Definitely worth playing and considering you can get it for peanuts, you have no reason for not getting this.
Make sure you clear your diary before entering the world of Cyrodiil :D

This was actually the first Open world RPG i'd ever played, and at first it was so overwhelming and amazing to me, the amount of stuff you could do!

I remember walking along the banks around the imperial city lake looking at the beautiful landscape. One time An imperial horseman saw some bandits, jumped off his horse and went to go kill them...I daringly jumped on his horse and galloped for miles till I randomly came across cheydinhal, where when I entered I was arrested and forced to jail, but I resisted, which led to my first death :P

All in all...a truly memorable experience.

Am i the only one who finds oblivion to be fake and lifeless? Once you've been in one dungeon you have been in them all. The copy and paste empty landscapes etc etc. The characters have no soul. No character is actually built into them. Its a face which moves. The voices are very random and sometimes change half way through a sentence and they must have like 3 voice actors because it was so repetative.

Quite frankly I find the game impossible to play without mods. However, with mods it really is a very good game. Even down to mods which improve the wildlife so you can go hunting properly etc.

The game is an empty shell that required the community to fix it IMO.
