Elderly driver insurance

I'm off to help a friend's dad find a good insurance quote tommorow, only on an everyday run of the mill car. Elderly drivers tend to miss out on the good deals as many don't have the 'net or access to discounts available via the internet.

Are there any particularly good insurers for elderly drivers that I should give a go, or any techniques?

Is adding a younger driver as a named driver likely to help?

Cheers :)

Depends how elderly you mean really, I had a job finding a 'good' quote for my grandad who is 79, despite him having full and protected no claims ...although I don't think this was helped very much by the fact that he wrote his last car off while putting it in the garage. He pays only £150 less than I do and his car is an Astra 1.6 Automatic and mine is a a 4.4l V8 BMW.

The best I got in the end was actually off Direct Line and was about £660, Saga were quite a bit more expensive iirc.

Oddly i asked my dad about insurance tonight, well made a jibe about Saga to him - he also stated they were very expensive.

Last laugh on him tho, £160 for the year with direct line :o
