hi all,

after a new electric shaver, thought about a braun series 5 , then noticed a few placed were doing series 7 for £40 more than the 5 but still £80 less then original retail price. anyone used either is the 7 worth the extra? any other recommendations, had 2 brauns in the past they were good, philishave poor and 2 remingtons very poor kept cutting out. how about panasonics?

I favoured Braun shavers for a long time, but a couple of years ago noticed even top of the range series 7 seemed to be getting worse rather than better. As I thought the high speed motor could be a problem I bought a 5 series and found it to be slightly better (even though its cheaper) but still not as good as some older Brauns with the previous foil design.

I had always wondered about Panasonics so I got an ES8109 that was on special offer and what a difference! The closest electric shave I've ever had and still without the irritation which I have with wet shaving.

In before merkur snobs.

I use a Philishave HQ7380 7300, i thought my old Philishave one was good but this one blows it out of the water. I have very thick stubble as well and it takes care of all of it fine.

i use both a phillishave and a braun, braun is a better shave but gives me shaver rash if i use it every day so i just the phillishave on alternate days.

(braun is a series 5 i think)

Braun Series 3

I've eczema and my face started to get it really bad for some reason - doctor suggested stopping wet shaving. I got a Philips rotary, which gave an awful rash, so I went back to wet saving. The eczema came back, so I tried a Braun 340 W&D which is great IMO. Not quite as close as a proper shave, but is much quicker than the Philips, doesn't give a rash and only itches a little which is solved with some moisturiser/balm.

Would recommend. I notice it's pricey now - I got it for £49 in Boots' sale.

I've used Braun's for 36 years so I'm a fan and in that time I've tried others but they've been useless.
The one I've got now can be used under the shower (can't be bothered to go upstairs to look at the number).

I have the original Series 5 360 deg complete with the clean and renew base.

Works fine for the last 2-3 years. Had to change the foil once when it broke but worked out quite expensive as the replacement pack came with the foil and cutting blade. I only use it on and off alternating between a wet shave and electric depending on my mood / if I am rushing.

The hair trimmer is pretty good (end of sideburns etc).

The base does the cleaning with special cleaning fluid packs but you can unplug the power cable and put it straight in to the shaver if you dont want to use it. You also don't have to use the cleaning function in order to charge the shaver.

Need to use it every day though where with a wet shave I can shave every two days.

itrim is pretty good. First shaver i have had that actually seems to be working over a long term use. Also pretty cheap and regularly on offer in store.

The Philips one doesn't nick or cause a rash for me, but it also fails to get you 100% smooth.

The trimmer works great, the shaving foil is ok but it always leaves a hair or 2 it just will not cut on me no matter how much I go over it.

I've not tried any other brands, but the Bodygroom by Philips ain't that great compared too other hair removal techniques.
