Hi there,

I bought an electric shaver when i came back from holiday (just from the airport) and as im sure you guys that use one are aware that its hard to find 'the one for you'. I got board of using a razor so i thought'd give it a try.

Anyway i bought a Braun 8995 360 Complete Shaver for £120 (including 4 cleaning refills) and i've been used it like 4 times now but i find that it keeps missing a few hairs on my neck. Although the rest of the shave is brilliant i've never, in my life had a closer shave.

But my problem occurs with the hair on my neck left over - it just wont cut them off, and in the end i just get a swore neck from going over it again and again.

So i was thinking about buying another one the;
Braun 9595 Pulsonic Shaver for £180
or even the
Philips Philishave RQ1095 Arcitec Shaver for £180 (both are top of the range).

But if i do buy another braun, i dont need this old one, so i was wondering if any knew if braun had a return policy?

Also any idea which would be better for the neck area - the last thing i want to do is buy another one and have the same problem as before!

Anyone have any suggestions at all, or a review on it from personal experience?

thanks

They won't take it back unless it's faulty.

Always have a problem on the neck due to the shape and hairs going in different directions. Tried warm wash first?

I've got the previous Philips top model, HQ99xx or such and that can cause my neck to be sore.

yep, can't see them taking it back

I have tried several electric shavers and never found one that was any use

i cant say i have tried water yet - to be honest i didnt think you could use it with electric shavers, as they blades migh rust, or become blunt?

Might I be of assistance? I would personally recommend a panasonic high-end model for you current predicament. Two things, you can buy them direct from the USA or a well known auction site for about £50.00 upwards. Secondly, you would still be receiving the kind of shave if you had purchased the Pulsonic as the Panasonic motor speed is over 10,000 rpm and for cheaper. It is just that there are not many Panasonic shavers in the UK and I personally believe it to be the best model to buy. I have purchased all the other electrics apart from the Pulsonic and would rate them moderate to good but not the best.

Could you not just use a wet razor to get the bits missed? Or is it quite a lot?

Seems a waste of money to get a higher end model, when you are generally happy with the model you have.

So would you say its the speeds which makes all the difference on the neck area?

I thought the reason why my shaver is not work on the neck, was due to the shape of my neck, coming into contact with the blades (i.e. making the RQ1095 the best choice for me?)

I've had a look at that one your talking about, but i wasn't too sure - i guess im just basing performance on price again!

Well i could - but i'd just prefere not too any more - that why i want to get the choice right.
Also what i failed to mention is that razors, although it works, i swear i have to go over everything twice, and if i want a smooth face (i.e. same result as my electric) i'd have to shave once in the morning and again at night.

Not the shaver, wash your face with a scrub and warm water to lift the hairs up.

hehe i know that! But the affects of the water may brush off on to the blades after sometime (although 5 times out of 7, it will be put on the base right after im done)

Can't return any unless they are faulty.

Braun are the only shavers I would buy, and I have always used electric and don't particularly enjoy wet shaving as my skin is super sensitive (and unfortunately, I need to shave twice a day usually, otherwise I look like a convict)

I had the misfortune of buying most of the other different makes/models over the years, and I have to say most of them either don't cut specific hair regions (due to the way their heads are shaped and my very small face/features) - they don't cut close enough or they don't give a clean shave (due to me having very corse hair and lots of it)

I would say over the last 20 years or so, I have had 11 or 12 shavers. My best ever was a £35 Braun with a single speed and no gimmicky cleaning head. My worst was a panasonic that cost £90. It was noisy, cheap plastic rubbish and the foil lasted about 3 months, and was too fine to take my thicker hairs, so left a lot of stubble. I threw it out after 4 months.

Quoted. I had a Phillips one once, tried it for a week or two was rubbish. Never got a good close shave so i stick with a basic Gillette razor.

I had a phillips one that was quite expensive, around £90. Was useless and I went back to wet shaving, but then I got fed up again and gave 'leccy another try, this tim eoptin for the same Braun 8995 360 as the OP. Works a treat on me. Rarely find it misses hairs unless I haven't shaved for a few days and have a large amount of stubble. Shaving every day stops that problem altogether.

However, I have read reports on them from other people that range from fantastic right through to awful. I think with 'leccy's you need to find the right one for you otherwise they're rubbish.

Also, I don't really buy the sonic stuff. Has anybody actually compared the sonic against the 8995? I think it's just a gimmick if you ask me.

Too right - im 100% sure it is. I had the razor equal to it, and i found it just made shaving worse.
But the reason why i wanted to get the sonic one, was best the motors spin at 10,000 100% of the time - and i think this may just help the left over hair?

But on the other hand, the reason why this one cant get is is because they are so flat against my skin it cant 'lift' them up to cut.

Maybe i should try a static charge before a shave!

I've taken shavers back to Curry's when I went through a phase where I'd try other makes instead of Braun.
Both Philishave and Remington were awful and Curry's took them back.
I ended up with Braun again.

Oh really? and didnt they stop you when they saw it had been used?
What did you say to them? Im sure places like argus wouldnt take them back at all - for hygien reasons.

Although saying that i keep reading on american sites that this manfactures have a returns policy which can last up to 6 weeks?! but theres nothing about it on the manfactures webpages.

Yes really.
They knew I'd used them so whats your point?
Perhaps you think they just put them back on the shelf?
Actually they return them to manufacturer for a good cleaning.

Well its not expected, everyone else here seems to think that companies wouldnt take it back, and my personal expericence has shown this as well.

So its shocking to hear that currys allow returns. to be honest i didnt even think they did shavers.

I have to confess I was under the impression you could not take them back (directly to the place of purchase) due to hygine rules. I know general retailers such as Boots (non OCUK competitor) and the like will not have them. Even catalogues specifically say non returnable unless broken. I know the retailer already mentioned wouldn't even let me try a pair of headphones due to hygene regulations. This left me stuck since you try a pair of these to assess their quality lol. I recommended the high-end Panasonic due to its cost effectiveness and due to the fact, that from my experience, the more powerful the motor, the faster and more efficient the shave. For the ultimate shave you need a wet shave first then a good electric one.

I bought one of the the wet shave Philishave electric razors and id had a 28 days money back guaruntee if i wasnt satisfied, all i had to do was send the the razor back to Philips with my reciept.

Didnt do it myself but a work colleague did and he got his money back.
