Electric toothbrush

I got a Phillips Sonic-air and it's made me feel like I have new teeth. I don't know how I ever survived without it, REALLY!

Guy at work has just finished running a promotion for Oral B, from the info I was given the Tri-Zone range is recommended for people who don't get on with a normal electric toothbrush (round head).

The standard type actually do a better job at cleaning but they are all interchangeable anyway so just get whatever is cheapest.

There is also no difference in cleaning ability between the 1000 model at £30 and the £100+ versions, they just add different modes such as whitening, sensitive, massage etc. The 5000 has got a cool LCD display which smiles at you when you brush your teeth though!

I notice is a big difference between electric and manual - there's a lot more buildup with manual, and it doesn't go away unless I use electric. That's said, I have crooked teeth at the bottom - never had braces, although I've been tempted to get invisalign or whatever it is, but not sure if I can justify the cost just so my teeth are a little straighter.

I recommend the Braun Oral-B Professional Care 3000

I compared the specs of all the models and the higher ones don't seem to offer much of use, this one has the same speed as the top model, the lower models aren't as good.

Which one of the Oral b brushes is the better one to get?
Professional care or the trizone range?

They cost roughly the same but there seem to be more offers on the professional care range.

There's also the Pulsonic range- I always thought that sonic toothbrushes were supposed to be the best? But then Oral-B's top of the range seem to be non-ultrasonic ones?

I have always been curious about this after the whole Electric Shaver vs Double Edged proper shaving debates where the latter is always miles better. Are electric toothbrushes that good then? This thread is tempting me down that road as I hate normal toothbrushes - either I have a bad technique or the things do sod all.

Edit: Bought a Phillips Sonic-Air to be delivered tomorrow. If it all goes wrong I blame Spamalot!

I've got an Oral B 5000 and it's amazinggggg. From my limited time deal with electric toothbrushes there doesn't seem to be an awful lot of different between the sonic and rotation heads, though the Oral-B ones and won more awards than the Phillips counter parts. It seems to be mainly down to personal preference. Some people don't like something spinning at a bazillion RPM in their gob in the morning!

I've really noticed a change in my teeth colour since having mine though, that's not to say they were yellow or anything in the first place, they've always been pretty nice but I don't think I could go back to a manual one now!

I had a low end oral-b for years and never really liked using it... it made my nose itch. But I stuck with it (alternating with a normal brush) because my dentist said rotating heads were best.

Recently I got a low end Philips Sonicare, and it is both more pleasant to use and -- after a few days -- had my teeth in squeaky-clean, "just cleaned at the dentist's" mode without having to go beyond 2 minutes. I'm pretty impressed and my teeth have lightened a shade or so up the scale of caffeine addiction.

I'm less impressed by the £15 for two heads, but compared to what my dentist charges for me to lie in his chair I guess it's a bargain. The Philips isn't rotating, but whatever high frequency vibratey stuff it does, it does it very well.

Overall I can't help feeling there's a lot of price gouging when it comes to electric brushes, and that heads are no different to ink cartridges. But there's no doubt they make a thorough clean much easier, so they've got us over a bit of a barrel. :-)

Nah, I just brush a bit longer with my pound shop tooth brush.

Does the job just fine. If you ask me electrics are expensive gimmicks, like the mach 3 turbo.

We know that a safety razor takes more time and skill but ultimately does a better job.

I bought an OralB Trizone last week, so far its great :) Think it's a 3000? got it from tesco on half price for £30.

So my Phillips Sonic-Air arrived at 8pm last night much to my annoyance.

First impressions was that it was a well built, robust device. It felt good to hold. I charged it for a bit and read the instructions like a bau5 and then marched to the bathroom ready to goto war against plaque.

I lobbed some Colgate Total onto the brush end, wetted it with some hot water and hit the ON button...my first mistake. The blob of toothpaste shot straight off the brush and onto my black t-shirt. Many fffffuuuu's were made as it left a huge white stain... :o :(

Anyway back into the action and I made sure I switched the thing on when it was in my mouth. I felt like I had a giant wasp in my mouth during usage and afterwards I was quite amazed at the results. My teeth and gums felt very different and smooth and I was really impressed.

I had to clean the mirror I was looking into though because that was covered in toothpaste spray when I was doing my front row gnashers :o :D I really like this new bit of kit!

I laughed way more than I should've at the image of you spraying yourself with toothpaste *makes mental note not to do that*.

I may have to give these a try then, as vaping dries my mouth out a bit and makes dental health a bit more important.
