We might not think its a technically elegant solution, but dual RCD boards are the de-facto way of providing RCD protetcion in line with BS7671:2008 in a domestic environment at least at the moment. RCBOs have come down in price, but they are still around £20-£35 a pop for the likes of wylex boards, etc, cheaper chinese three letter brands are often a little cheaper but its best to stick with known brands, at least you'll be able to get spare breakers in 5 years time. Given the choice between a dual RCD split and all RCBO most households go for the former on cost reasons!
 
Want to check the price on some square D stuff. Split load board are fine in most cases as long as the person fitting puts a little thought into it. Like upstairs lights on same side as downstairs sockets etc.

Merlin RCBOs used to be able £60 IIRC, now its one brand with the square D stuff, I image sqaure D will be as expensive, if of course, they werent all ready, lol
 
Square D.. heheh i remember i had a nice 3kw square D stepdown Transformer for 110v, lovely bit of kit and ran 24/7 for 13 years. Still probably running as i sold it 2yrs back as i don't need 110 anymore.

Learn something new every day, I knew Merlin were but not Square D. Guess I ain't bought anything Square D for ages, We mostly deal with Wylex and Crabtree stuff.

Power shower or Cooker would be my guess, If it's been working fine and has become faulty it's unlikely to be a wiring fault. (Don't rule it out though.)
 
Didn't Electrium recall a lot of Wylex and Crabtree stuff not long ago? Something about overheating MCBs and possible fire risk.

That they did, We sent two lads out checking and changing MCB's on a site we did (100+ board changes) Which was nice...

The only reason why BS7671 said dual RCD's are ok was for cheapness.
How about "one circuit should not interfere with another" That is why RCBO's are the way to go
 
They are the way to go, But you quote someone for a board change with RCBO's and Derek from down the road quotes them for Dual RCD's and you are going to lose the work. It's just the way of things, More so at the moment than ever before.

Sad but true. Also some think you're trying to have one over when you tell them the benefits of a RCBO.
